CORROSION MONITORING
PRESENTED BY FRANK CRUZMITJANS
INTRUSIVE/NON INTRUSIVE CORROSION
MONITORING
• Line Cleaning‐ Cleaning Pigs are used to improve and maintain
internal pipe cleanliness by removing contaminants and deposits
within the pipe.
• Internal Coating or Lining‐ Internal coating of pipelines should be
considered as an internal corrosion control measure.
• Corrosion inhibition‐ Addition of corrosion inhibitors should be
considered a corrosion mitigation measure when corrosive gases or
liquids are present.
INTRUSIVE/NON INTRUSIVE CORROSION
MONITORING
• Corrosion Coupons‐ Can be used to identify type of corrosion
(General, Pitting, Scaling…) Also to identify bacteria types present.
Coupons will give you an MPY value based on weight loss analysis
over a specified period of time.
INTRUSIVE/NON INTRUSIVE CORROSION
MONITORING
• Coupon Analysis helps determine which inhibitors to be used in
order to minimize corrosion
• Coupons are usually made of same or similar material as the pipe
therefore reacting in the same way, only possible way to detect type
of corrosion occurring internally ( General, Localized, Scaling)
• Oldest, most reliable type of Internal corrosion monitoring available
INTRUSIVE/NON INTRUSIVE CORROSION
MONITORING
• Having all three Corrosion Monitoring Technologies is an advantage
as you will know the thickness of the pipe wall at all times, access
metal loss data for any period of time via ER Probes as required
without performing retrievals and evaluate Coupons for type of
corrosion and bacteria present.
• Chemical injection Points will facilitate injection of inhibitors needed
to control bacteria present in the line and also act as sampling
points.
INTRUSIVE/NON INTRUSIVE CORROSION
MONITORING
• We do not recommend one technology over another as all
technologies represent a different value and purpose. All which are
very important in determining and preparing a corrosion
management plan to elongate pipe life and prevent unnecessary
corrosion related incidents from occurring.
