1. What is an ideal transformer and how does it differs from a practical transformer?
2. Define regulation in a transformer.

4. Does the transformer draw ant current when secondary is open? Why?
5. Define All- day efficiency of the transformer.
6. A 1100/400V,50Hz single phase transformer has 100 turns on the secondary winding. Calculate
the no of turns on its primary.
7. Derive the condition for maximum efficiency of transformer.
8. What is thermistor?
9. Define gauge factor.
10. Give the factors to be considered for selecting a transducer.

11. a)  (i) )  Briefly explain about the construction and operation of single phase transformer. (9) 
(ii) Derive the EMF equation of the transformer. (4)

b) Calculate the all day efficiency of  25KVA distribution transformer whose loading pattern is 
as follows:
15kW at 0.8 power factor for 6 hours
12kW at 0.7 power factor for 6 hours
10kW at 0.9 power factor for 8 hours
Negligible load for 4 hours
The core loss is 500W and full load copper loss is 800W (13)
12. a) (i) Explain the construction and working of digital multimeter with all the self­diagnostic

    (ii) Briefly explain about the dynamic characteristics of measuring instruments (4)

13. a) A 25KVA, 2000/200V transformer has constant loss (i.e) iron loss of 350W and full load
copper loss called the variable loss of 400W.Calculate the efficiency of the transformer at
full load and at half load 0.8 power factor lagging. (14)

b) Explain the working principle of PMMC instruments and also derive the torque equations

(ii) A 5kVA, 1000/200V, 50Hz single phase transformer has the following no-load test,i.e., the open
circuit test and the shot circuit test data
No load test W0=90W I0=1.2A V0= 200V
Short circuit test Wsc=110W Isc=5A Vsc=50V
Calculate the efficiency of the transformer at full load 0.8 p.f. lagging. What will be the
equivalent resistance of the transformer windings referred to high voltage side (6)

12. a) With neat diagram, explain the operation of storage oscilloscope. . (13)

13. a) A 100 kVA. 2000/200V,50Hz transformer has 100 turns on its secondary winding. Calculate the
number of turns of the primary winding, the currents that would flow in both the windings when
full load and the maximum value of flux in the core (14)

b) What are the various types of inductive transducers? Briefly explain about the LVDT
and also give its advantages and disadvantages (4+10)
