I joined Coal India Limited as a Management Trainee right after my graduation. For the first
year, I was given the opportunity to understand the Insights Of ​Mining​. After a year I was
promoted to the post of Assistant Manager. Now my job is of Shift Incharge, where I have to
monitor safety and working on the project(plant) with a manpower of around 150 people. I
work in 3 shifts – day, night and second. The second shift is from 4 pm to 12 am.

Please describe your current Job Responsibilities.


My role is to see if everything is in order. As I mentioned I work in shifts and in every shift,
there are 150 people working under me. While going underground to dig out coal, I have to
be sure of the security of each individual. To check if there is no gas leak, people are taking
safety measures or not.

Work can be stressful if you don’t have the proper resources. But being flexible and calm
helps. Working in coal industry is very different experience. You have to find your comfort
zone and expand it.

You meet a lot of people in your life. If you love being around people, you’ll love this job.
There is a lot of learning exercise that you get while working and certain emotions that are
developed for the people in your surrounding.

Plants are generally located in remote areas. Usually far away from major cities, which
makes living difficult for a person who was born in a city. There is a risk of life when people
go beneath the surface for mining.
