1. What is media?

In general, media refers to various means of communication. For example, television, radio, and the newspaper
are different types of media. Computer media can be hard drives, removable drives (such as Zip disks), CD-ROM
or CD-R discs, DVD’s, flash memory, USB, and yes, floppy disks.

2. What is multimedia?

Multimedia is the field concerned with the computer-controlled integration of text, graphics, drawings, still and
moving images (video), animation, audio, and any other media where every type of information can be
represented, stored, transmitted and processed digitally.

According to (Marshall, 2001), a multimedia application is an application which uses a collection of multiple media
source e.g. text, graphics, images, sound/audio, animation and or video.

3. Different Types of Media

On this day and age, technology is advancing really fast. Media has also evolved throughout the time. This is
called new media. New media is changing the way people across the world are entertained and consume
information. According to (Neese, 2016), there are 5 types of new media.

1) Blogs
Information in blogs are easily accessed and searched for, and everything is typically organized naturally.
2) Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality technologies simulate an environment along with the user’s physical presence and sensory
experience.
3) Social Media
Social media center on creating, sharing and exchanging information, ideas and content in online
networks and communities.
4) Online Newspapers
Online newspapers blend multiple types of media and are easily accessed and searched.
5) Digital Games
Digital games are a part of everyday media culture and a unique type of new media. Digital games and
game world opens up cultural spaces themselves.

4. In what aspects can you apply multimedia in business?

iNowadays, people spend more time in Social Medias than doing activities outdoor. According to the report of
(Wallace, 2015), it says that teens in the United States spend about nine hours using social media for their
enjoyment. Social Media is one of the best ways to advertise something online due to its nature. Your posts could
go viral depending on your skill to edit pictures that is surely will make people enjoy them and at the same time
be interested on your product. Memes are spreading in Social Medias that some of the companies are going with
the trend of using it as a marketing strategy to advertise their products.

iIn this picture, you can see a flash drive with an edited face of Unique, former member of IV of Spades and the
caption which is a lyrics from their song “Mundo”. This is the meme that propagated in the social media from
July to August and PC Express ride in with the wave and used it to advertise their product.
