NON-INVERTING AMPLIFIER

AIM: To design a Non-inverting Amplifier for the specifications using Op-Amp IC 741.
OBJECTIVE: To study and design Non-inverting amplifier (DC and AC) having Gain of 11
using IC 741C.
APPARATUS REQUIRED:

Sr No. Equipment Specifications Quantity

1 Operational Amplifier IC 741 1
2 Resistors 10K, 1K 1 each
3 Dual Power Supply +-15V 1
4 Multimeter - 1
5 Bread board - 1
6 Connecting wires and probes Single stranded Needed
7 Function Generator 2 MHz 1
8 DSO 30 MHz 1

THEORY:
The input signal Vi is applied to the non-inverting terminal of the op-amp. This circuit amplifies
the signal without inverting the input signal. It is also called negative feedback system since the
output is feedback to the inverting input terminals. Feedback control of the non-inverting
operational amplifier is achieved by applying a small part of the output voltage signal back to the
inverting (-) input terminal via a Rf -R2 voltage divider network, again producing negative
feedback. The Rf and Ri are the feedback and input resistance of the circuit respectively.

th

Here the positive sign indicates that the output will be an amplified wave in phase with the input.
By varying the Rf or Ri, the gain of the amplifier can be varied to any desired value. This closed
loop configuration produces a non-inverting amplifier circuit with very good stability, a very
high input impedance, Rin approaching infinity, as no current flows into the positive input
terminal.

EQUIVALENT POTENTIAL DIVIDER NETWORK:

We can see from the equation above, that the overall closed-loop gain of a non-inverting
amplifier will always be greater but never less than one (unity), it is positive in nature and is
determined by the ratio of the values of Rf and R2.
If the value of the feedback resistor Rf is zero, the gain of the amplifier will be exactly equal to
one (unity). If resistor R2 is zero the gain will approach infinity, but in practical it will be limited
to the operational amplifiers open loop differential gain.

PROCEDURE:
1. Check the components.
2. Connections are given as per the circuit diagram.
3. +VCC and -VCC supply is given to the power supply terminal of the Op-Amp IC.
4. DC input is applied to the inverting input terminal of the Op-Amp for DC amplification.
5. Output is measured on DMM.
6. By adjusting the amplitude and frequency knobs of the function generator, appropriate
input voltage is applied to the inverting input terminal of the Op-Amp.
7. The output voltage is obtained on the DSO and the input and output voltage waveforms
are observed.

DESIGN:
Gain of an inverting amplifier Av= Vo/Vin= 1+Rf/Rin
Let the required gain= 11
Therefore Av= 1+ Rf/Ri = 11
Ru/Rf
Take Ri = 1KὨ, Then Rf = 10KὨ
