An-Nur Childcare.

Asalamo Alaikum, Abdulrahman your last story was about how you have been developing
curiosity related to how things work. We also mentioned how we will support you to
manipulate toys and play alongside other children. During the last few weeks, staff will
continue in supporting you to learn An-Nur preschool routines in such areas as
encouraging you to put your lunch box and drink bottle on the kitchen shelf, washing hands
and reading Dua before kai (food) and also sitting at the table while we all eat. You also
have been encouraged to tidy-up at the times
when needed.
Recently Abdulrahman you have been
developing different ways of playing with
other children and trying to involve youself in
their play. Therefore today I put forward the
idea of building soft blocks to initiate
cooperative play. You came and give me a
block and placed one in my hand with a big
grin on your face and put your block on the
floor, laying the foundations of a building to begin the exercise. I put my block on the top of
your block and give you a big smile and said, “Building”. You responded with a giggle and
jumped onto the box. I called out your name and said in a singing tune, “Abdulrahman come
and build.” I noticed with some support you managed to build the blocks in a tower and
when you wanted to push it all down you looked around and while pushing the blocks
down you kept your hands close to you in a secretive manner. You were very happy when I
praised you and looked around and said ‘Turn’ “Turn” while picking the blocks up. We
managed to repeat the activity quite a few times happily in a co-operative manner.
What is happening?

Observation shows you are developing an understanding and recognizing your own
abilities by finding strategies to initiate and maintain play alongside other children. It is
also evident Abdulrahman that you have been developing some concept of space utilized by
you alongside other children.

How can we extend this learning?

We will continue supporting you with the learning pathways provided by the centre which
cater to your interests and will scaffold you to gain more confidence in manipulating toys.
We will also encourage you to learn and play alongside other children, which is already one
of your developing interests and strengths.
