 EXPENSIVE ELECTRICITY RATES DUE TO HIGH
GAS PRICE

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – The government has set a gas price cuts for three
industrial sectors named Steel, Fertilizers and Petrochemicals.

However, such rates are not given to PT PLN (Persero) for Gas Power (power plant).

Chairman of Trade Unions (SP) PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Jumadis Abda,
explained the purchase price of gas for power plants was above 9 dollars per mmBtu.

That number was above the discount gas prices for industry that was only $ 6 per MMBtu.

“The high price of gas supply for the power plant is touted as a major contributor to the
high price of electricity for the community,” said Abda, Wednesday (11/01/2017).

According to Abda, the price of gas becomes a problem for PLN.

It is because it greatly affects the cost of production and electricity tariffs to the public.

“The average national price of gas is 9 dollars per MMBTU including the price of gas is still
9 dollars per MMBTU. This is still relatively expensive,” said Abda.

Abda added that competitiveness of PT PLN as the state electricity provider was not
against private enterprise.

Abda also thinks that it could be detrimental for PLN and consumers.

“So no wonder that high electricity increases will always be charged to the consumer
because the components can not be controlled before,” said Abda.
FLOOD OF MUD CANCELED THE DAKAR
RALLY STAGE NINE

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, SALTA – The organizers of the Dakar Rally canceled the

ninth stage which would be held from Salta to Chilecito in Argentina, today.
Stage nine rally was canceled because the location was hit by mudslides that was
caused by heavy rains.
In fact, ninth stage called Stage Super Belen is the most anticipated stage.
This stage stretches along 977 kilometers, 406 km of which are included in the
count race and is described as a decisive stage.
However, heavy rain which flushed during stage eight of Uyuni to Salta was
making stage nine canceled.
Rockslide that closed roads used for special stage between homebase in Salta
towards the finish line was the excuse.
Tracks that are used for stage eight of the Dakar Rally 2017 are closed due to the
storm resulted in landslides and mudflows.
This avalanche is located 160 km before the finish line.
The cars were stuck directly through the territory of San Antonio de los Cobres
which turned out to be considered not feasible to use the race.
That means, they will be late arriving at homebase and be not ready to take the
stage nine, today.
As a result, organizers decided to gather the participants directly to Chilecito and
resumed the race from there.
In a statement, the organizers of the Dakar rally also helped the Volcan village and
its surrounding that were hit by heavy rains and mudslides.
This is the second stage which will be removed within five days after the sixth
stage on Saturday (7/1) also had to be canceled due to bad weather.
