Introduction

Title: “The Effect of Flooding in the Tourism Industry in Dagupan City”

Rationale and Background of the Study

Dagupan has been suffered into flooding’s since then, because of the heavy rain fall. A lot of people have
moved into evacuation center because there in “under state of calamity”. It was hard for the people
outside to enter the city because of the flood. Many establishments like restaurants, hotels, cafes, etc.
has suffered. Lots of roads are closed because of the floods, people can't enter Dagupan, the reason why
establishments suffer. Lack of people and lack of income.

Statement of the Problem

The objective of this study is to know the Effects of Flooding in the Tourism Industry in Dagupan city.

Specifically, the study sought to find answers to the following research questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the tourist-respondents by the following characteristics?

Theoretical Framework

Tourism involves the short term movement of people to destinations outside the places where they
normally live and work. It also involves the activities of people, referred to as tourists or visitors, during
their visit to these destinations and the facilities and services patronized during their stay.

The nature of the industry involves a lot of external factors which makes it vulnerable. The form that a
crisis can take within the tourism industry is perhaps different than in other contexts. One significant
difference is that a tourism related crisis is not necessarily sudden or unexpected. For example, climate
change is already has made an impact on the tourism industry. Because of the rising water level some
destinations.

The objective of preventing the flood is also to prevent the tourism crisis which may involved while
having a disaster in a place. Community must also know to empower local communities to directly
participate in the design of emergency services dealing with actions for floods.They should also be
inform on the risk exposure to natural hazards and how they can get prepared, respond, recover and
mitigate the impacts of such eventsThe following three (3) industry may affect during floods namely:
Delicacy, Transportation and Accomodation.

Conceptual Framework

Climate and weather-related impacts have become widespread particularly affecting the tourism
industry. Flooding has gained research attention over the past decade, since the destruction creates
many challenges for tourism destination. Floods are a growing global problem, increasing in terms of
frequency of occurrence, property damages, business economic losses, and fatalities.

Tourism is climate sensitive and by nature, a place-dependent sector. Tourism becomes sensitive to
climate, when annual changes in weather occur. Changes in climate lead to changes in weather
conditions across a variety of tourism destinations, accommodations, transportation and products.

Assumption of Study

In other studies about the flood in Dagupan is such a huge problem to the tourist industry. It will affect
the business and other industries. This study will help them to have a awareness on the floods in the
area. The respondents have been affected of floods will give the honest answers and correct
information. The community of dagupan will prepare for floods.

Scope and Delimitations of the Study

The scope of this study is the three (3) industries that we consider namely: Delicacy, Transportation and
Accomodation that affects the tourist industry by the climate change (Flood)

The respondents of this study are the community or Tourist around Dagupan City. The purpose of this
study is to know the how would the local do if they having a problem like flood. This study was
conducted in a very short time. Therefore, conclusions and recommendations are based on limited data.
The researchers of this study ensured the confidentiality and anonymity of all the information gathered
to protect the respondents’ identity as much as possible.

Significance of the Study

Community. This study helps them to be inform on the risk exposure to natural hazards and how they
can get prepared, respond, recover and mitigate the impacts of such events

Entrepreneurs. This study helps them to know what they will do incase it has a disaster like flood to
there business.

Local government.To empower local communities to directly participate in the design of emergency
services dealing with actions for floods.

This is study is important because flood is one of the major problem of Dagupan City. This problem
has been affecting the lives of other people not just the people leaving inside Dagupan. People outside
Dagupan are in trouble in entering the City because of the floods. During floods roads, bridges, houses,
farms and automobile are destroyed. Flood also causes a massive leakage in nuclear plants and cause
high radiation of the that area.

Floods are natural occurring processes that are difficult to prevent but can managed in order to
reduce its social and economic impacts. This is a threat to life and leads damage of the property. The
number of people displaced is often large and number of death is high.

Definition of terms

Tourism-involves the short term movement of people to destinations outside the places where they
normally live and work.

Climate change-is the catch-all term for the shift in worldwide weather phenomena associated with an
increase in global average temperature.

Flood-refer to an overflow of large amounts of water over schools and the surrounding area.

Delicacy- is usually a rare or expensive food item that is considered highly desirable, sophisticated or
peculiarly distinctive, within a given culture.
Accomodation- It is a residential accommodation which people travel and stay away from home for
more than a day need lodging for sleep, rest, food, safety, shelter from cold temperatures or rain, storage
of luggage and access to common household functions.

Transportation-is the movement of humans, animals and goods from one location to another.
