QUESTIONARY

COCACOLA:

Do youconsidertheirpoliciesright?Why?

I consider that their policies are right, because they have a dedicated section only for CSR, they
also include a brief description of how are all of their initiatives in community development
and water preservation.

Also is important to mention that Since 2001, Coca-Cola also publishes annually a report
dedicated to CSR called 'The Coca-Cola Company Sustainability Review'. This provides
"moderate guarantee" on the reliability of the information reported by Coca-Cola. This is how
customers will be able to have greater confidence in the products they consume.

What is the conflict?

The presence of pesticides: The presence of pesticides, at a level that exceeds European
standards, in a sample of a dozen Coca-Cola and PepsiCo beverages are sold in India. After a
few years the CSE published its second test of Coca-Cola beverages, which also resulted in a
high content of pesticide residues which showed that nothing had changed and that coca cola
was still neglected in its products.
Water pollution and excessive extraction of groundwater.
Coca-Cola was also accused of causing water shortages in southern India:Coca-Cola was
accused of water contamination by discharging wastewater into the fields and rivers
surrounding Coca-Cola plants in the same community.
Groundwater and soil were contaminated to the point that public health authorities in India saw
the need to place signs around the wells and hand pumps to warn the community that the water
was not fit for human consumption. .
Coca cola put as an argument that due to the few rains that were being there, it was reaching
that extreme.

Could they have provisions toavoid it?

Yes, because they were able to put certain channels so that they could supply themselves with
water and thus not be mistreating the environment and also leaving the inhabitants of a certain
part of India without water, with this also many problems could be avoided, such as the loss of
confidence of the customers and the bad image that was gained.
What are the changes of policies post conflict?

-The GRI Guidelines and began reporting on sustainability. It was not going very well due to
the lack of confidence that customers already had towards coca cola. Coca-Cola, acknowledged
that the company had not handled the controversy properly.
-Acknowledged that the perception of local communities about their operation is important and
that for the company, the Company realized that they only thought about their profits and not
what they offer and their core business.

Are they enough? Why?

It is never enough, in my opinion I think they are starting to do things well, but it would also be
good to see that other things can improve and not expect something to go wrong so they want
to improve, proactivity is always better than lamenting .

WALLMART:

Do youconsidertheirpolicies right? Why?

I can consider that their policies are right because the Walmart’s performance, policies and
financial figures at first sight shows how is their model company all directly to obtain an
excellent CSR.And this is absoluted showed in the way how they make effort to use its
contractual relationships to regulate behaviour among its suppliers around the globe ,with
respect to product quality, working conditions for the suppliers, employees, and ethical
conduct. And how they changed their annual report on its website since ‘Global Sustainability
Report’ to ‘Global Responsibility Report’ (2011).

Whatistheconflict?

The conflict are involved the two cases

i) Walmart Stores Inc. v. Dukes et al: This case shows how they were stilling being heard by
the US Courts, for one part Walmart and for the other Betty Dukes, Patricia Surgeson,
Edith,Arana who are ‘plaintiffs’, on behalf of themselves and others similarly situated, for that
they allege that female employees in Walmart were discriminated against based on their
gender “be woman”. They stated that they were discriminated against regarding pay and
promotion to top management positions, there by violating the Civil Rights Act of 1964.For
that to conclude, Justice Antonin Scalia concluded that the millions of plaintiffs and their
claims did not have enough in common,so this case of gender discrimination would have been
the largest class action lawsuit in US history.

ii)Walmart caught using child labour in Bangladesh: This second case was a new about two
factories in Bangladesh using child labour with aged between 10 to 14 years old were found to
be working in the factories for less than $50 a month making products of the Walmart brand
for export to Canada. For thar, Walmart ceased business with these two factories immediately
and Walmart said that with thousands of subcontractors around the world.Despite its effort to
inspect all factories, it is difficult to do it with 0 mistakes and follow at the same time with its
own corporate code of conduct. That is their principal characteristic.

Couldtheyhaveprovisionstoavoidit?

It is known that it is very difficult to control a transnational corporation that is the largest private
employer in the United States, besides being the largest retailer in the world, but that is not
impossible. Their biggest provision as they say it is, and should be, their people, as they seek to
show through their work towards
social responsibility issues.Maybe with constant controls or putting a person in charge for each
space and who is the best person capable of following all the policies and objectives that Walmart
has.

Whatarethechangesofpoliciespostconflict?

- Developed its first Code of Conduct (COC) ‘Standard for Suppliers’: focuses on quality
standards for suppliers only.Had a result that Walmart ceased to do business with 141 factories,
primarily because of underage labour violations because as the COC explains Walmart would not
tolerate the use of child labour. And It also specifies non-discrimination on the basis of gender and
other personal characteristics or beliefs.

- Walmart publishes a full and complete report on CSR issues called ‘Global Responsibility

Report’ which covers the three dimensions of ‘People, Planet, Profit’.

- Walmart has a Gender Equality and Diversity gender policy

- Walmart has also committed itself to achieving three goals in its Sustainability Report: using
100% renewable energy, creating zero waste, and selling products that sustain people and the
environment.

Arethey enough? Why?

The First change of policy was good because was done after being accusing Walmart’s suppliers in
Bangladesh of using child labour and was imitated by the rest of the companies in the market. Wich
had results as Nowadays, as being qualified as a ‘global legislator’ in CSR.

The Second ant third have generated an increase in female officials and managers from 23,873
employees in 2005 to 25,246 employees in 2010

N,because in general apart that Apple considers the GRI indexes, which is related to the economy,

the only company that can claim that all electronic products are qualified by Energy Star. Their
products are powerful, but at the same time They harm the environment less.

chain.

What is the conflict?

The limited transparency of Apple's supplier sustainability policy has often been criticized in the
media. This generated a possible distrust of their customers, therefore could have lost revenue.
Apple also rejected the sustainability proposals of two shareholders to establish a sustainability
report on Apple's environmental policies and the impact that climate change has on the company.
By refusing, he would be demonstrating that he is not interested in anything with regard to CSR,
with which he also gains a bad image.
Work and human rights
Apple was in trouble because of the suicides that occurred in Foxconn, who is the one who makes
iPhones and Ipad, these suicides were caused due to the labor exploitation suffered by these
workers.
Health and safety of workers
With regard to health and safety in Foxconn there were also deaths, thus demonstrating that there
was no care for their workers, with which their image was on the ground.

Could they have provisions to avoid it?

Yes, because you always have to see a good working environment for the workers and so they can
produce efficiently, if not, unfortunately losses are generated.
Also what is in the case of safety and health if you are working with electrical equipment or with
any type of equipment requires special care because different accidents can occur.

What are the changes of policies post conflict?

Apple ensures that suppliers comply with the Supplier Code by performing audits. With this they
seek that the established norms are met and thus avoid problems and be more careful when doing
their work. Their audiences per year increase considerably, that means they are doing their job well.
After a while Apple made his investigations of the suicides that occurred in Foxconn and
discovered that there was exploitation of minors in the work environment therefore apple took the
decision not to continue with that company. A program of awareness on the problems of hiring a
minor to work was generated.

Are they enough? Why?

No, because apple had to act from the beginning when the Foxconn suicides happened and realize
what is really happening and avoid so many things.
Currently if they are doing a good job, but it is never enough, so they should always improve and
thinking what they can do to remain a leader in what they do and what they stand out.
