General information
Construction
SHI type brakes are predominantly used as safely brakes for middle and heavy hoisting and
cable railway drives, but are also fitted as service brakes, ie. for belt systems.
Itis also possible to use them as rail appliance braking clamps.

4.2 Brake Assembly and Operation
‘The SHI brake is a spring applied, hydraulically released disc brake, consisting of two opposing halves, each
fitted with separate spring assembly and hydraulic cylinder.
The spring assemblies generate the clamping force, being supported by the housing covers and pushing the
linings against the brake disc by means of the pistons, pressure plates, studs and lining carrer tiles.
The tangential forces generated while braking are directly transferred to housing with the guide flange. These
tangential forces are compensated by the housings. The brake is released by applying hydraulic pressure.
Applying the requested hydraulic pressure, the piston will carry out ts stroke, pulling back the brake linings
from the brake disc.
