1. Those who want to join this this quiz shall be a member of Engineering Sciences and
Allied Subjects (ESAS) Forum.
2. For those who want to join, send your codename to these admins: Jade Nopre Mijares and
Daniel James Agsaullo Molina. The codenames shall be up to 10 characters only. Also, with
your codename, tell whether you are a student, an engineer who practices their profession
in the field, or an instructor/professor. Any member may join during the span of quiz.
3. Answers shall be sent in order according to the arrangement of questions and on or
before the deadline of submission. The contestants may send their answers private
message on any of the admins enumerated at No. 2.
4. The quiz is composed three categories namely Easy, Average, and Difficult. The number
of questions and points each question are enlisted as follows.

Category Number of Questions Points per Correct Answer

Easy 15 2
Average 10 3
Difficult 6 5

5. The points will be summed up to determine the total score of every contestant. The
codenames of top ⌈√ ⌉, where N is the number of contestants, will proceed the written
oral round (hosted by Daniel James Agsaullo Molina)

------------------------------------------------- Quiz Proper -------------------------------------------------

Easy
1. The number of successes in a number of Bernoulli trials is called __________.
2. The slope at in the projection of a surface on plane constitutes
to what?
3. It is also known as "jolt", "surge" or "lurch". It is the rate of acceleration that is, the
derivative of acceleration with respect to time.

5. Refers to a reaction where the electrons lost by one element are gained by another
element

6. Consider the differential equation y'=y, where y is a function of x whose derivative is y'.
The exponential function y = Ce^x will be a general solution but a solution such as the zero
function y=0 that satistfies the same differential equation is called ______.

bending the cutting plane?
8. What do you call the solution to the differential equation of the form

9. What is the rate of depreciation of a double-declining balance whose economic life is 20

years?

10. What is the equation for the determinacy of a 2D frame?

11. It is also called the 4th moment about the mean.

12. There is a maximum force that makes an object not move over a rough surface. What is
it?
13. All the energy of a system that is associated with its microscopic components when
viewed from a reference frame at rest with respect to the center of mass of the system.
14. This is the point by which the resultant force passes through the line joining the fixed
joint of a rotating body and its gravity center.
15. This is a material that usually behaves like a rigid body at very low stresses but when it
achieves yield stress, its behaviour becomes like a fluid.

Average
1. The initial cost of a machine is Php 10 Million. Using the sum of year-digits, the salvage
value is Php 1 million after 10 years. What is the book value after 5 years?
2. Find the general solution to the differential equation

3. Determine the volume generated by revolving the area bounded by x-axis and
y=1/x from x=3 to x=7 about x=1.
4. A 10-m beam is simply supported at both ends and at midspan. What is the reaction at the
midspan if it is only loaded by its selfweight. The beam is tubular whose outer diameter
is 500 mm and thickness of 10 mm and the specific gravity of the material made on the
uniformly made tube is 2.4. Use g = 9.81 m/s^2.
5. A bullet penetrating a wooden block has a retardation (in feet per second per
second) of twice the square root ot its velocity (in feet per second). Find the total
penetrated distance of the bullet into the wood if the initial velocity is 144 ft/s.
6. A circular shaft of radius 200 mm is to transmit 10 kW that does not exceed a 2-
degree angle of twist. What will be its frequency? G = 83 GPa.
7. Given the following sequence of equations, calculate the mass of produced from
80 g of carbon wherein there is 90% yield on first reaction and 85% yield on second
reaction.

8. Give steps in making a regular octagon without making a circle. Assume you have only
compass, straightedge and pencil
9. Determine the weight of the block W to support the 70 kg weight. D and E are stoppers on a
tube with water. D has elevation of 10 m while E has elevation 17 m. D is circular of diameter
200 mm while D is a square stopper of edge 100 mm. AB = 100 mm, BC = 400 mm. C is pinned.
