Kinds of Filipino Community Members

The Pahingi Nga Person (Dole-out Mentality)

This person is too dependent on government agencies and non-government


organizations. He waits for them to give him any kind of resources either in
the form of money, material, or food that will satisfy his needs.
He prefers to see an immediate answer than a long-term plan. He wants others to think for him
and to take care, rather than do his part.

The Paano Ako Kikita Person (Entrepreneur-minded)

This person is concerned with his future stability. His goal is to rise above her
present economic level. He looks for ways and means to start even a small
business. He may request loan assistance from then right agency so he could
have a small capital to start with. He prefer to plan, decide, and to act in order
to improve his living standards and to be respected by others.

The Ayoko Sumama Person (uncooperative)

He is a person who is either fearful of change, lazy or distrust others.


Perhaps because of his experience, attitude and beliefs, he is used to doing
what he is accustomed to because of his upbringing. He may have had a negative experience
with others in the past as a result of a wrong decisions. His has given him a negative impression
of any change.

The Sige, Sama Ako Diyan Person (Cooperative)

He is a person who pro-active, and optimistic. He sees a situation as an


opportunity to encourage others and to work with them. He likes to be
involved in decision-making and in implementing an activity. He also challenges people to be
part of work so they can accomplish the task they have planned.

The Ningas-Kugon Person (Starter Only)


This person shows interest only at the start of any work but never finishes it.
He may actively involve himself in planning and decision making, but not in
implementing and evaluating the work. Or he may implement the activity
only the short-term, not in the long-term. This is why the work is not accomplished most of the
time.

The Antay-Tingin Person (Wait-and-See Attitude)

He is someone who cannot be easily convince or persuaded by others. He


wants to see first and evaluate the work of others before joining the activity. He prefers to see
first the facts before making any decision. He wants to be certain that by being a good example,
he will be followed easily by others.

The Lahat Alam Person (All knowing)


He is always competing for attention, and looks down on the others. He
pretends to be wise, and often talks a lot. He keeps defending his ideas or plans when others
members disagree with him.
The Iwas-Gulo Person (Avoid conflict)

This person will deny there is a problem even when there is one. When he
senses tension among the group members, he run away or refuses to face it.
Most of the time, he withdraws from the group. Or he just sits and does not
respond to anyone or anything. He is too shy to express his opinion because he does not want
any confrontation within the group.

The Kaya ko Yan Person (I can do it)

This person is very independent and self-reliant. He is flexible and can easily
adapt to a new environment. He likes challenges and want to be exposed to
people from various walks of life. He continuously learns from his own
mistakes and from those others. He always ask about the end results, for it keeps him moving
to achieve it.

The isip-Pangkaunlarang Komunidad Person (Community Development-minded)

He is someone who focuses on the improvements of individuals and on


building relationships among community members. He desires to see his
co-members get involved in community work. He values the experiences
and ideas of poor people. He emphasizes community ownership rather
than being manipulated by an outsider.
