SUBJECT: Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Skill Soft

ISSUE/BACKGROUND: DoDEA Educators have had exposure to professional development in the
College and Career Ready Standards; however, very limited training or learning opportunities have been
provided in other subject areas or career fields.
DISCUSSION:

 DoDEA values professional learning and understands the positive impact it has on employee
retention, satisfaction, growth and personal fulfillment.
 A Strategic Talent Development Specialist has been hired to focus on developing a
comprehensive development system that will include connecting career pathways and training
opportunities. The Strategic Talent Development Specialist will work collaboratively with the
Chief of Teaching and Learning, and the Human Capital division of Human Resources to
develop a comprehensive strategy.
 DoDEA will employ an innovative approach to learning due to the global geographic dispersion
of employees.
 DoDEA’s strategy will be developed and implemented in phases allowing for some immediate
opportunities for employees.

SOLUTION:

 Recognizing the current need and desire for training, DoDEA will launch Skillsoft for all
permanent DoDEA employees on October 4, 2018.
 Skillsoft is an intelligent learning platform that offers a plethora of eLearning, online training
and talent solutions on an organizational scale, enabling DoDEA to further develop and add
more value to our most precious resource—our employees. The platform provides highly
effective learning solutions aimed to engage and excite employees as well as help them achieve
their work and personal goals. These solutions include Business Skills, Training, Digital Skills
Training, IT Skills and Certification Training, and Supervisory Training, IT software training,
Conflict Resolution training, Customer Service, Digital Skill Training, and Compliance Training
to mention a few.
 The Skillsoft platform offers more than 165,000 engaging and effective courses, videos and
books that used over 130 million times on a monthly basis by companies and organizations in
160 countries and comes with support for 29 languages. As SkillSoft is 100% cloud-based,
DoDEA employees can access the system and its content anytime, anywhere.
 No training is being mandated by the organization, and employees have the ability to choose
their own training and they may take as many courses as they wish.
 Skillport access:
o Access: To access your new DoDEA SkillPort account, you will need to login to
https://dodea.skillport.com using your username and password.
o Username: Your SkillPort username was established using your 10-digit DoD ID number
found on the back of your Common Access Card (CAC).
o Password: Your SkillPort password is your personal Service Computation Date used to
calculate your annual leave. Your password will follow the DD-MMM-YY format. For
example, someone with a Service Computation Date of January 20, 2017 will have the

 password of 20-JAN-17. If you’re unsure of your Service Computation Date or the
format required, please see the instructions below to retrieve it from MyBiz.
o Obtaining your username and password from MyBiz: If you are unsure of your username
and password for your new DoDEA SkillPort account, you can obtain them from your
MyBiz profile following the steps below:
 Login into DCPDS using your CAC (https://compo.dcpds.cpms.osd.mil/)
 Click on the MyBiz+ tile to access MyBiz
 Click Accept on the Privacy Act Statement page
 Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Detail Pages section then click the
Personal tile to access your personal details
 Under the Personal Information section, locate and make note of your EDIPI
number. This number is your DoDEA SkillPort username.
 Tip: This number can also be found on the back of your CAC under DoD ID
Number.
 Click on the Service Computation Date Information section heading. Make note
of your SCD Leave date. This is your password for logging into DoDEA
SkillPort. Note that the password (your SCD Leave date) is case sensitive.
 Skillsoft is the first step in providing career development and learning opportunities across the
DoDEA workforce and we are proud to offer this great resource to the DoDEA employees. All
employees will receive an email with directions to log-in on October 4, 2018 and they may begin
use at that time.
