 CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

To satisfy this partial fulfillment for the award of national diploma in computer
Science (DCS) four months report of industrial training fund, I hereby present my
field exposure for job experience at BORNO RADIO TELEVISION
CORPORATION (BRTV)MAIDUGURI, The period of industrial training lasted
for four month from 29 MAY TO 30 SEP 2017 has been full of meaningful
experience

STATEMENT OF INSUFFCIENCY

When there is Insufficiency of an organization for students to conduct his ITF

programmer in order to get adequate of practical knowledge of computer system so
that the government should take over this problem and to provide material/place to
reduce price of the machines for the work of student.

METHODOLOGY

This will be done in ways to study in computer science, first by the qualified
lectures in school and Secondly by the good staff of organization student attached
to and by the effort of the student attending organization regularly.

OBJECTIVE OF THE (ITF)

The objective of ITF is to learn and again computer science education and practice
what have being treated during normal studies when attached.

SIGNIFICANT OF THE (ITF)

The work ITF serve as a training related to compute application also serve as a way
of gaining experience on how to work on a system.
Also serve as an understanding of computer Application and appreciation and even
the part of it.
At home instead so computer education is very wide without practice there are
method of operating System easily when editing, exporting/saving by using the
shortcut keys on the keyboard when train.
The aim of attachment is to rain the student and prove his/her skills and again more
and even work in the future in any organization desire, many student felt to
understand this in order to use it and make brighter to work anywhere across the
country. I want to tell my colleagues that certificate is not a problem but the
experience is the best.

SCOPE OF THE ITF

The scope of the ITF would cover the computer practical area in the application
and appreciation and even the attachment.
 CHAPTER TWO

PLACE OF ATTACHMENT

BORNO RADIO TELEVISION CORPORATION (BRTV) OPP SHEHU

SANDA KYSRIMI PARK ZOO MAIDUGURI BORNO STATE

I was attached there to conduct my ITF programs by the school of AGRIC

AND APPLIED SCIENCE letter given to me. The organization is well tight and
conducive place for the student to perform his program many customers rushed
there for their efficient work.

AIM OF ATTACHMENT

The industrial training was established by the state Government of Borno state
with his aims of equipping the students of higher institution with the knowledge of
such training.
The programmed help the student to great height and are very important to them
because:
1. It helps the student to apply the theoretical aspect to real practice.

2. It gives the zeal for handling skills.

3. It provides more knowledge to the students

4. It exposes the student to know more their fields

5. It gives them a great confidence and awareness for proper working

experience, which help them achieve their aims of being to the system.
 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF BORNO RADIO
TELEVISIONCORPORATION MAIDUGURI (BRTV)

BRIEF ON BRTV

The station started as a provincial Broadcasting station in 1957 for relaying

programmes from the defunct N.B.C Kaduna and Lagos. At that time, it had total
of only one hour of broadcasting of local programmes. Thus it was then seen just
as a relaying station for most of its programmes from 5.30 to 11.00pm daily on the
medium wave (MV)

In 1970, a short wave transmitter (SW) was installed giving the station a more
powerful transmitting capacity. Consequently the station was allowed to run more
local programmes but had to relay Network News, Educational programmes and
other important National programmes.

In April 1979, the Federal Military Government through decree No 8 1979

abolished the former N.B.C stations and established the federal Radio corporation
of Nigeria (FRCN) with effect from April 1978, the same decree also handed over
the former NBC station to their governments in all the then nineteen (19) states.
As result of that, in 1980 the board of Governors approved the change of name of
the corporation to Borno Radio Corporation (BRC).

In August 1983, the state Government set-up a state Television Station known as
Borno state Television (BSTV) to transmit on 1KW UHF Transmitter.

The General Manager of the corporation was then appointed as the Administrative
Manager to oversee the take-off of the Television Station.

The Radio and Television services were operated separately until 1984when an
edict was promulgated to merge the two organizations to be known as Borno Radio
Television Corporation (BRTV) with staff strength of 330.

RADIO SERVICE
At that time in history, the radio station has five (5) Transmitter located at Gubio
and Baga Roads. At that time it broadcasts for 19 hours from 5.00am to 12.00mid-
night. With time all the Transmitters become old and non-functional.
As of the early 1990s, the only functional Transmitter was the FM Transmitter
whose reception was limited to some parts of the state capital instead of the whole
state. This unfortunate scenario forced the military Government to procure two(2)
New 50 KWs solid state Transmitters in January 1996 and were supplied in
November of the same year, but could not be installed by the successive
administration to data.

TELEVISION ARM
The Television started transmission on a 1kw UHF Transmitter on the Channel 38
in 1983 up to 1991. At its peak the transmitter which was serving only the state
capital has since grounded.

This informed the decision of the then military Government to award contract for
the supply and installation of a 10Kilowatts transmitter (VHF channel 8) in
1991.this transmitter is the one the station is using to date.

OPERATIONS
The station mostly runs its services on Government, it has a number of serviceable
Generator sets, and it has the following departments.

 News and Current Affairs

 Program

 Engineering

 Marketing

 Administration

 Supply and Accounts

 Finance.
WORK DONE

I am heartened to be among the participants of the industrial training fund (ITF)

because this is the right time that student obtained more skills and experience.
This training helps me to indulge in many works, which exposed in dimensions,
how to use printer to prints seen and so many other things. I performed it with the
help of my supervisor and with experience I gained from my lectures during course
of study.
 CHAPTER THREE
OUTLINE TRAINING AND EXPRIENCE

The day that I was accepted by the organization and started my (ITF) programs 29
may 2017 I was introduction to the Director first followed by showing me some
Room in the organization, showed us by the Ass Director of programs
department. The Rooms that showed include:

 Control Room

 Studio

 Transmitter Room

 News Room etc

ATTACHMENT GAINED

EDITING PROGRAMMS USING NON LINEAR APPLICATION SUITE

ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CS3

Is a timeline application video editing software application. It is part of the a

Adobe creative cloud, which includes video editing, graphics design, and also
documentaries and capturing a clip on a camera (F5).
 Premiere pro is the redesigned successor to Adobe premiere, premiere was
one of the first computer based non-linear editing system ( NLEs).

ADOBE AUDITION 1.5

Is a digital audio workstation from Adobe systems featuring both a multi-

track, non-destructive mix/edit environment and a destructive approach waveform
editing view?

Is also among the non-linear editing systems (NLEs), is a professional audio

editing environment which designed for demanding audio and video also to put
background music.
NERO EXPRESS ESSENTIALS

Is also called Nero, is an optical disc authoring program from Nero. It is

used for burning and copying optical disc such as CDs, DVDs. The program also
supports label printing technologies and it can be used to convert files into other
audio formats.

In Nero, a user can burn the following:

 Data

 Audios

 Video/picture

 Image, project and copy

DATA

A user can burn a CD or DVD using data which create a standard data disc
which can be used to save all types of files and folders. The disc read on all
windows platforms.

AUDIO CDs

Is to create a standard audio CD that will be play on all audio CDs player,
you can make a compilation or gathering on your hard drive or select track from
exiting audio CD.
AUDIO DVDs

Create a DVD with all your favorite mp3,WWA or Nero digital audio files
that can be played back on your PC or DVD player that support mp3.

VIDEO/PICTURE

This video/picture is mostly used in most station because it contains the

sounds, pictures and the video itself. You can burn either CD or DVD.

FOR CDs
Is to create a CD from your video or picture that can be played in VCD or
CD. The files are automatically converted to the correct format during the burning
process.

FOR DVDs
It creates a high quality DVD video file structure on your hard drive.

IMAGE, PROJECT AND COPY

Image and project is to record a disc from disc image previously burned into
the hard drive. Copy it mean to copy entire disc that being insert in the computer
system.

FIRE WIRE CABLE (IEEE-1394)

Is general purpose interface that predates USB (universal serial bus) and be
used to connect multiple devices to a computer or to enable high speed transfers
between the camera and computer? Often used to connect consumer electronics or
to connect peripherals to a computer.
The cable interfaces between the user and the computer, and aslo use to capture a
clip from camera to the computer using the NLEs application known as Adobe
premiere pro.

AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATOR (AVR)

AVR can operate in two condition controlled. It is from manual control or

automatic control with standard limited parameter that required for generator.
This control must be provide if it not available for generator system to
ensure it smooth running without any problem.

UNINTERRUPTABLE POWER SUPPLY (UPS)

UPS is also called a battery /flywheel backup it is an electrical apparatus that

provides emergency power to a load when the input power source or mains power
fails. A UPS differ from an auxiliary or emergency power system in that will
provide near protection from input power interruptions, by supplying energy stored
in the batteries.
A UPS is typically used to protect hardwire such as computers, data center,
telecommunication equipment or other electrical equipment where an unexpected
power disruption could cause injuries.
 CHAPTER FOUR

RECOMMENDATION

For future I.T.F students being taken up by the institution, I firmly

recommend a more strict supervision of their training program. This will assist in
ensuring that trainees do not lose focus and will be kept reminded of their services
are of value to the institution.
I also suggest I.T.F should negotiate with some organization where they will
take up students for industrial training in other to make it easier to the student.
 CHAPTER FIVE

CONCLUTION

The industrial training (I.T) has enlighten me with the basic practical and
theoretical knowledge that I may not have gotten from lecture classes. I also had
the chance to feel what it would be like after graduating.

After my industrial training with Borno Radio Television Corporation

(BRTV)

 I can effectively handle the demands a help desk of any organization I find
myself in future.
 I can carry out repair works on computer systems and accessories which include
laptops

Other benefits include

 Working principle: - I have been able to develop good working ethics due to the
close working relationship I had with the News editing manager. They are being
able to provide solution to problems e.t.c
 Profession: - the training has given me the chance to take a look into the future
and access my readiness for employment. Lastly, the training has help built a
good level of confidence. It has also given me an experience of the computer
science field as a whole.
