Product Ip.access outdoor

The Aomyx outdoor picocell enclosure is designed to give outdoor functionality to the ip.access picocell units.
The Outdoor enclosure protects the ip.access units from the weather as well as providing antenna options to allow best
integration into the existing macro network and options to provide different types of coverage to enable optimum solu-
tions to isolated capacity/coverage issues.

The outdoor units can be divided into two basic types, omni and directional. The mechanical mounting and siting re-
quirements of these units vary slightly due to the different radiation footprints of the different types of antenna’s em-
ployed. This manual covers the installation and requirements and operational description for the 3G version with omni
antennas and the Aomyx Active Temperature Control.

Quick start guide...

Omni type mounting requirements

The Omni type system is designed to give maximum coverage within a simple circular footprint.

This is the simplest type of installation and would be generally mounted on a rooftop or a small structure.

With an omni antenna it is vital that the antenna’s are installed vertically (check installation with a spirit level).

Surrounding metal structures will effect the coverage pattern of the omni antenna’s, so care must be taken to not
install the unit next to any metal poles or other large metal structures.

Mechanical mounting is by two M6 “U” clamps on the back of the chassis.

Attaching the antenna to the enclosure

The omni type antenna’s are supplied separately to the enclosure. It is nescesary to attached and make the RF
connection from the enclosure to the antenna.

Step 1, remove the aluminium shields from the enclosure.

Step 2, Take the omni antenna’s and screw on one of the M24 nuts to the top of the treaded tube and slip on
one of the large washers.

Step 3, Partially insert the antenna through the hole in the top of the enclosure bracket.

Attaching the antenna to the enclosure

Step 6, screw the bottom M24 nut and washer until it fits against the underneath of the enclosure bracket, DO
NOT tighten with a spanner as this will transfer stress onto the N type RF connector below.
Just hand tight is OK

Step 7, Tighten the top M24 nut and washer against the top of the enclosure bracket.
Be careful not to over tighten this as the antenna tube is aluminium and it is possible to strip the threads if too
much torque is applied. Loctite threadlock should be applied to prevent the nuts coming loose due to vibration.

Pole mounting ‘U’ Clamps

U Clamps to suit a 1.5”/38mm diameter pole.

It is recommended to attach these to the enclosure first, then slide the enclosure down the pole to the correct
position the tighten the clamps with a 10mm spanner.

Data connection

The outdoor unit uses the same data connection as with the stand alone picocell with the power and data both
supplied by power over Ethernet (POE).

A cat5 cable connection is required to connect between the router which connects to the internet service pro-
vider and the outdoor unit.
On the Aomyx outdoor units an ip67 connection system is provided to allow cables to be made and installed
to suit each sites requirements.
It is recommended to either use armoured cat5 cable with UV protection or a suitable conduit system to pre-
vent damage due to the elements/ animals etc.
The IP67 connector provided will allow the use of cable up to 6mm diameter.

Ethernet cable IP67 plug installation.

Tools/parts required
1. CAT5 cable long enough to stretch from the internet router to the outdoor enclosure.
2. RJ45 plugs (2 per cable)
3. RJ45 crimping/cutting/stripping tool
4. Ethernet cable tester.

Ethernet cable IP67 plug installation.

Step 4. Peel of the backing pa-

per from the gasket and stick
the gasket to the front face of
the collet

Step 5. Lightly screw the collet

and cable guide together to pre-
vent it sliding down the cable as
you work on the next step.

Step 6. Strip the CAT5 cable as

per the instructions with the
stripping tool, insert the cable
strands into the RJ45 connector
as shown. The diagram shows
the cables arranged when the
latch on the RJ45 plug is under-
neath (see picture to the right)

Step 7. Attach another RJ45 connector to the other end of the cable following the same
instructions as step 6 above. Then test your assembly using the cable tester. During testing
it is good practice to flex the cable near the joints with the connectors to check for a good
connection.

Active Temperature Control option– Extra notes

If the ATC option is specified then an active temperature control module is fitted to the inside of the enclosure and
allows for environmental conditions between –40 and +50°C.

The ATC option needs an extra 12-15V/6A (72 W) power supply, this is in addition to the normal 18W POE sup-
ply which goes to the ip.access internal unit.
Max cable diameter for the connector is 12mm, max wire size to fit the screw terminals is 1.5mm².

With the ATC option specified there is an extra IP65 socket on the bottom of the enclosure with a matching, site
installable, IP65 cable plug.

In operation the ATC module will actively heat the enclosure once the temperature of the unit falls to 7°C and will
actively cool once the temperature reaches 42°C.
When the ATC module is activated it will consume between 5 and 6A depending on the temperature.
If the unit temperature is between 7 and 42°C then the ATC module is inactive and consumes no power.

Inclusion of the ATC option does not effect external dimensions of the enclosure and adds an extra 0.5 Kg to the
overall weight.

ATC option MUST be specified at time of order and is not retrofittable on site.

Suitable 12-15V/6A (72W)power supply type will vary according to each installation.
