Diversified digital technology group, Ansys Limited, is showcasing its latest innovations in
cybersecurity at a defence conference and exhibition being held at the CSIR this week. Ansys
subsidiary, Parsec, specialises in designing and producing advanced technology products and
systems designed with defence-level security requirements in mind. Tried and tested in the
aerospace and defence environments, these are now in demand in the business sector, especially by
large enterprises that are vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

“Digital and electronic attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and pose a real and
significant threat both to national security and large businesses,” says Group CEO, Teddy Daka.
“These attacks can take many forms, and both businesses and government agencies need to be
prepared for any eventuality.”

Daka emphasises that cyber and electronic technologies are converging, and that this is significantly
amplifying the level of risk in both the public and private sectors. As demonstrated by many high-
profile hacks in recent years, the use of computer technology to disrupt the strategic activities of
state or the economy could be catastrophic. Add to this electronic warfare (EW) capabilities, which
make use of directed energy to control the electromagnetic system, and the potential severity of
cyber-attacks increases exponentially.

“Wherever these is innovation, there are new challenges to solve,” says Daka. “The Internet of
Things (IoT) or Industry 4.0 has brought with it the benefits of smart factories and connected
systems, but it has also brought with it a new level of risk, as has the rapid converge of cyber and
electronic warfare capabilities.”

As an original design manufacturer (OMD), Parsec leverages its electronic design and manufacturing
capabilities to provide customised turnkey solutions for its clients. Where required, these make use
of the company’s commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded products, which include its HSNE 9000
range of products for virtual private networks (VPNs). These are designed to communicate at Top
Secret classification levels over the VPNs used by government and the military, so feature the very
highest levels of security.

“Governments have long recognised the need for a new form of defence against a new form of
attack,” says Daka, “and business is now equally aware of the magnitude of the risk posed by
potential cyber-attacks.

“Parsec draws on its years of experience in the defence sector to produce state-of-the-art digital
technology solutions for the rapidly evolving digital age.”
