Competency 9: Evaluate Practice with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations,

and Communities 

Advanced generalist social workers continually evaluate the dynamic and interactive
process of social work practice with, and on behalf of, diverse individuals, families, groups,
organizations and communities. They use the evaluation processes and outcomes to
advance practice, policy, and service delivery effectiveness. Advanced generalist social
workers apply theories of human behavior, the social environment, and social work
practice models to critically evaluate outcomes. They use qualitative and quantitative
methods for evaluating outcomes and practice effectiveness. Advanced generalist social
workers: 

 Develop evaluation plans to monitor client progress and measure efficacy of
advanced interventions.
 Engage in evaluative processes to increase service delivery effectiveness.
 Apply theory to evaluate practice effectiveness.
 Use research methods to evaluate practice effectiveness.

DIRECTIONS:

Please utilize the same client system you worked with at your agency for SOWK 695 to complete
this assignment. You will discuss the plan you implemented, to evaluate the success of your
intervention with the client. You will also select and discuss an evaluation tool to measure the
effectiveness of the service delivery provided to the case client system. You will need access to case
information about the client as well as the intervention implemented with the client system. If you
do not have access to a case that meets this criterion, have your instructor provide your supervisor
with the case criteria you will require to complete the assignment. Your supervisor will provide
you with the case information that you can review. Fully review the case assessment, planning and
implementation details in order to complete the assignment.

In this fourth signature assignment – you will use the current client situation to demonstrate
advanced practice evaluation methods to fully examine the outcomes with the clients and the
agency-wide service delivery system. Research the techniques mentioned below, before you write
your paper and review the grading rubric. You must provide authoritative scholarly sources to
support your method with the client and agency-wide service delivery. You must use a minimum of
5 sources, 3 of which should be social work sources. Note that you will be only proposing a way to
evaluate individual and agency outcomes. You will not carry out the evaluation you propose.

1. Briefly summarize the important demographics of the case and re-introduce the client. Be sure
to exclude identifying details about the client, when describing them or the case.
2. Summarize the primary information you gathered and organized to understand the client’s
situation, identifying one priority issue your intervention addressed that you will evaluate.
3. Select and describe one research-based evaluation method you would use to evaluate one of the
interventions you utilized earlier, addressing one priority issue (Refer to the prior case write up
from SOWK 695 for the priority issue and interventions you chose). You can use one of the
following, or any other research-based evaluation method (e.g. single-subject design, self-
report measures, intervention tool assessments, etc.)
4. Discuss how you would apply the selected method to both your case intervention to an agency-
wide intervention method utilized at your agency. Utilize authoritative, scholarly sources to
support how this evaluation method is effective for the agency-wide intervention. Answer the
below bullets to fully complete this section, which should be no more than 3 pages.
 Using the evaluation method you described in Number 3, discuss in detail how you
would use this method to evaluate the outcome of one of the interventions you utilized
to address a priority issue from the case write up you did for SOWK 695. Include all
necessary elements, such as variables, standardized measures, etc.
 Critically evaluate and discuss any outcome indicators for the intervention you applied
that would suggest successful outcomes for the intervention, as well as those indicators
that would suggest the intervention used did not produce the desired outcomes. Discuss
successful vs. non-successful outcomes from the standpoint of being a practitioner.
(This section requires you to examine as a practitioner, what would indicate a
successful outcome, and what would indicate a non-successful outcome, using the
intervention applied to the client issue. for remedy).
 Briefly describe an intervention used agency-wide with clients at your site. Describe and
discuss how you could evaluate the outcomes of this intervention. This may be the same
or a different intervention than the one described above. If you use the same
intervention, you must discuss how you would measure outcomes from an agency-wide
perspective.
5. Discuss two ways the evaluation process assists you in determining needed modifications with
this intervention to promote successful outcomes.
6. Identify and discuss how agency-wide service delivery impacts individual outcomes and give at
least two suggestions for improving agency service delivery at your agency. Connect your
suggestions to the agency-wide intervention you discussed in Number 4.
