1.

GENERAL

1.1. The following specifications apply to all materials, equipment and labour necessary for the supply and
installation of the insulated steel cladding system.

1.2. Work Included

1.2.1. Design of the cladding system.

1.2.2. Prefinished steel cladding and liner sheets, insulation, subgirts, metal closures, end channels, corners and
trim.

1.2.3. Connection hardware for attachment of cladding system to the building structure.

1.2.4. Sealants between cladding system components and between cladding system and adjoining construction
sealants around penetrations in the cladding system including ducts and pipes.

1.2.5. Cutting for penetrations.

1.2.6. Steel flashings within cladding system and at penetrations, including piping, ducts and the like.

1.2.7. Drilling and tapping of structure as required for fastening of all work included in this section.

1.2.8. Removal of grime and dirt from the sheets as the material is erected.

1.3. Quality Assurance

1.3.1. The Contractor engaged in installation of the insulated steel cladding shall be approved by the cladding system
manufacturer.

1.5. Submittals

1.5.1. Shop drawings of the cladding system's layout and construction details shall be submitted to the Owner or his
assigned representative for review before commencing fabrication. Drawings shall show details of exterior
cladding sheet, insulation subgirts, liner sheet, fastenings and fastener layouts; cladding joints and
penetrations; flashings, closures, and sealants. Indicate gauges and thickness of materials. Shop drawings
shall be coordinated with those of other trade to ensure correct interface details required to provide a watertight
and weatherproof installation.

1.5.2. Shop drawings shall bear the stamp of a Registered Professional Engineer registered in or licenced to practice
in the State where the project is located.

1.5.3. The vendor shall submit, with his tender, test data on the coating finish proposed in addition to a detailed
description of the coating finish.

1.5.4. Duplicate system colour samples of the exterior and liner sheets shall be submitted to the Owner or his
assigned representative for final colour acceptance. Colour samples shall be at least 4" square each.

1.6. Delivery, Handling and Storage

1.6.1. Materials shall be delivered, handled and stored by methods approved by the manufacturer. Units shall be
stored at the work site on wood platforms raised above grade tilted sufficiently to ensure no water remains on
the material, or stored in enclosures protected form the elements and corrosive materials.

1.6.2. Care shall be exercised in handling and placing the cladding sheets to prevent damage likely to impair the
adequacy or appearance of the material in the finished structure.

1.7. Design Criteria

1.7.1. The cladding system shall be designed to provide a completely weatherproof covering of the applicable interior
spaces.

1.7.2. Structural design shall conform to the requirements of the State Building Code of the State in which the project
is being built. Loading criteria for wind, snow and earthquake shall be in accordance with the State Building
Code, or where applicable, the BOCA National Building Code.

1.7.3. Wind pressure shall be based on a probability factor of being exceeded once in 10 years.

1.7.4. The cladding system shall be designed and erected for expansion and contraction of component materials
without causing harmful buckling, failure of joint seals, undue stress on fasteners or other detrimental effects.

1.7.5. The cladding system, fasteners and connections shall withstand positive and negative pressures resulting from
local wind loading.

1.7.6. The cladding system must be designed to accommodate movement in the system and between the system
and building structure, without creating permanent distortion, racking of joints, breakage of seals, or water
penetration.

1.7.7. Provide for positive drainage of condensation occurring within wall construction, to exterior face of wall.

1.7.8. The cladding fabricator shall design the cladding system to the following erection tolerances:

1.7.8.1. Maximum installed variations from plane or location shown on approved shop drawings: 1/8" per ft. of length
and up to 1/4" per 100 ft.

1.7.8.2. Maximum offset from true alignment between two adjacent sheets abutting end to end, in line: 1.32"

2. PRODUCTS

2.1. Materials

2.1.1. Exterior cladding sheets, inner liner sheets and subgirts shall be to A653/A653M-94, Structural Grade A
minimum with G90 Hot-Dip Zinc Coating Process.

2.1.2. The field assembled cladding system shall consist of;

2.1.2.1. Inner sheet shall be a V-rib steel liner with pre-caulked male/female joints and minimum 0.030" core thickness,
or as indicated on drawings.

2.1.2.2. Subgirts, shall be of the Z Type, with a minimum of 0.048" thick steel core and have a G90 protective zinc
coating with a weight not less than 0.45 ounces per square foot per side.

2.1.2.3. Insulation shall be glassfiber, semi-rigid board, with a density of 1.1 lb/ft equal to "Owens Corning" Type 700
secured with fire resistant adhesive in a spot pattern. Thickness as indicated on drawings.

2.1.2.4. Exterior steel sheet shall be ribbed profile 1-1/2" deep, 6" pitch and minimum 0.030" thick core, or as indicated
on drawings.

2.1.2.5. Where concrete or concrete masonry is the inner surface, replace the inner sheet with a 6 mil polyethylene
sheet spot adhered with adhesive with joints lapped and sealed.

2.1.3. The prefinished coating shall consist of a prime coat with a high build finish coating or vinyl plastisol minimum 4
mil. Alternative finish coatings may be -

a) silicone modified polyester, medium gloss, minimum 0.8 mil.

b) polyvinylidene fluoride, medium gloss, minimum 0.8 mil.

2.1.4. Exposed and reverse sides of exterior and inner liner sheets shall be coated with the specified coating system.

2.1.5. Exposed edges of cladding cut in the field shall receive cladding manufacturer's recommended protection
coating matching colour of coating.

2.1.6. Flashing and trims shall be fabricated from the same material and have the same finish as the cladding sheets
and shall have a minimum core thickness of 0.030".

2.1.7. Fasteners and hidden clips shall be supplied in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation to meet
the load requirements specified and maintain a weather-tight installation. Fasteners shall be as manufactured
by the Atlas Bolt and Screw Company or approved equal, as follows:

2.1.7.1. Structural fasteners to steel shall be cadmium-plated series 300 stainless steel, #14 Type B self-tapping screw
with stainless steel and bonded EPDM "Neo Bond" washer; complete with coloured nylon or painted stainless
steel heads to match colour of sheet.

2.1.7.2. Structural fasteners to concrete masonry shall be series 300 stainless steel #14 Type AB screw with 5/16"
diameter "HILTI" PSA plastic anchor.

2.1.7.3. Side lap and flashing fasteners shall be series 300 stainless steel #14, Type AB screws with stainless steel and
bonded EPDM "Neo Bond" washer; complete with coloured nylon or painted stainless steel heads to match
colour of sheet.

2.1.8. Preformed closures shall be according to cladding manufacturer's standard; and they shall match the profile of
the formed sheet.

2.1.9. Joint sealant shall be non-staining, medium modulus, one part silicone sealant equal to "Dow Corning 795".
Colour to match adjoining material.

2.1.10. Isolating tape shall be used to prevent contact between dissimilar materials. The tape shall be a non-
absorptive, self-adhesive, butyl or polysulphide tape, 1/16" thick and 2" wide.

2.1.11. Provide a thermal break between the subgirt and exterior sheet by applying self-adhering insulating foam tape,
1/8" thick and 1" wide.

3. EXECUTION

3.1. Examination

3.1.1. Previously executed work which may affect the work of this section shall be examined and dimensions verified.

3.1.2. Any discovered discrepancies shall be reported to the Owner or his assigned representative so that the
instructions may be given for the necessary remedial work.

3.2. Erection

3.2.1. Erection work shall be carried out by contractors having experience and acquired skills in his work, in
accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.

3.2.2. Before commencing work, the contractor shall verify that structural alignment and governing dimensions are
adequate for his work.

3.2.3. Sheets will be installed with corrugations vertical starting at either end of the wall and proceeding in horizontal
courses beginning with the lower course.

3.2.4. Sheet end and side laps shall be per manufacturer's specifications for the intended design conditions. All end
laps to terminate over a girt.

3.2.5. The liner panel is the vapour barrier. As such it must be sealed at all laps, corners and terminations. Special
provision must be made at the wall-roof junction to provide continuity between wall and roof vapour barrier.

3.2.6. Provision shall be made to accommodate longitudinal expansion and contraction of the wall system by means
of double subgirt or other approved methods where long sheets are used.

3.2.7. The liner panel, subgirt and exterior panel shall be fastened per manufacture's specifications for the intended
design conditions. The following minimum applies: 3 screws per 24" of girt coverage for liner panel and
subgirt assembly; exterior sheets fastened to the subgirts at every second valley of sheet terminations and
every second valley of intermediate locations.

3.2.8. Spacing for side lap and flashing fasteners shall be per manufacturer's design specifications. The following
maximums shall not be exceeded: 18" for side lap fasteners and 12" for flashing fasteners, except at corners
where it shall be 0".

3.2.9. Fasteners shall be installed in true horizontal and vertical lines only; there shall be no staggered screw
patterns.

3.2.10. Openings shall be provided for pipes, mechanical and electrical ducts and as indicated on the drawings. When
field cutting is undertaken, care shall be exercised to ensure that cuttings do not remain on exposed cladding
surfaces and exposed cut edges are to be protected as per manufacturer's instructions.

3.2.11. Flashings, reinforcing and sealant around openings as required shall be provided for all wall openings.

3.2.12. Closure strips shall be placed to prevent weather and insect penetration at exterior cladding. Ensure continuity
of "pressure equalization" of rain screen principle.

3.2.13. Any minor abrasions at fasteners and lap joints shall be touched-up with matching paint.

3.2.14. Stained, damaged or defective material installed, shall be removed and replaced with undamaged material,
without cost to the Owner.

3.2.15. Isolating tape shall be applied on each contact surface between dissimilar metals and between metals and
concrete, masonry or mortar.

3.2.16. Flashing shall be provided as required to make all metal cladding panels watertight.

3.3. Sealant Application

3.3.1. Application shall be done in accordance with joint preparation and sealant installation procedures of
manufacturer.

3.3.2. Sealant bead shall be continuous, minimum of 3/8" deep x 5/8" wide, gun applied.

3.4. Clean-up

3.4.1. Any marks on completed work shall be removed. Defects to the work of this section or to any other work
caused by the work of this section shall be repaired. Cladding shall be left clean and free of all grime and dirt
and excess clippings and cuttings shall be removed immediately to prevent rust staining.

3.4.2. At the completion of the work of this section, any excess material, debris and equipment associated with the
work of this section shall be removed from the work site.
