ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Daniel R. Tomal, Ph.D., has taught many electrical and electronics courses at the high school,
junior college, trade school, and university level. He has worked in industry and consulted for
numerous companies, and was voted the outstanding professor at Purdue University, where he
taught in the technology and engineering department. Dr. Tomal has written 12 books and over
100 articles and studies. He is currently an adjunct professor teaching electronics at the Illinois
Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Aram S. Agajanian, Ph.D., is a senior professor at DeVry University in Chicago. He holds a B.S.
in Electrical Engineering from University of Rochester, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from
Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Colorado State University. Dr.
Agajanian teaches computer networking, electronics, computer, and biomedical engineering
technology courses at Devry, and has 10 years of industrial experience in electrical engineering.
His research interests include electronic and digital circuits and understanding the issues that
affect enrollment and retention of female students in science, math, engineering and technology
(SMET). Dr. Agajanian is also interested in teaching methods such as brain-based teaching,
constructivism, team teaching, and active learning that might improve the quality of engineering

Murari P. Singh, Ph.D., is the President of Safe Technical Solutions, Inc. (SAFETSOL). He has
been involved in the design, development, and analysis of industrial turbomachinery for more than
40 years with Turbodyne Corporation, Dresser Industries, Dresser Rand Company, GE CONMEC,
and most recently, GE Oil & Gas as Consulting Engineer.

Michael J. Drosjack, Ph.D., joined Shell Oil in 1975 as a member of the central Machinery
Engineer Department in Houston, Texas. He retired from Shell in 2009 and since then has been a
private machinery consultant. Through a variety of assignments over his Shell career, Dr.
Drosjack was responsible for providing technical support for rotating and reciprocating machinery
to Shell operations both upstream and downstream primarily in the U.S. but with responsibilities
that extended around the world. He was chairman of the Shell U.S. Machinery Technical Network
for many years.
David H. Linden is President of D.H. Linden Associates, Inc. He has 37 years of turbomachinery

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Shun Dar Lin, Ph.D. is one of the world’s leading water and wastewater scientists with more
than 50 years of practical and academic experience in the field. He is Professor Emeritus at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A registered professional engineer in Illinois and in
Taiwan, Dr. Lin has published more than 100 papers, articles, and reports related to water and
wastewater engineering. He has taught and conducted research since 1960 at the Institute of
Public Health of the National Taiwan University. In 1986, Dr. Lin received the Water Quality
Division Best Paper Award for “Giardia lamblia and Water Supply” from the American Water Works
Association. He developed the enrichment-temperature acclimation method for recovery
enhancement of stressed fecal coliform which has been adopted in the Standard Methods for the
Examination of Water and Wastewater since the 18th Edition (1990). Dr. Lin is a life member of
the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Water Works Association, and the Water
Environment Federation. He currently serves on many Task Force Committees for the Standard
Methods. Dr. Lin was appointed by the Governor of Illinois to the Illinois Pollution Control Board
