What is Architecture

Architecture is the Art of building structures of enclosed, functional or symbolic

space for human use.
It is the mother of all arts. That's what I call it. In order to be an architect, one
requires comprehensive knowledge not only of nature and materials, but also
of the human body, social aspects and what it takes to construct a physically
safe structure. Architecture, under all of its constraints of engineering safety,
function, climate responsibility and economy, sometimes transcends to inspire
us with ideas in space and light—qualities achieved in the abstract. It has
been described as a social art and also an artful science. Architecture must be
of the highest quality of design.Considered as one of the chic professions and
looked as a profession for elite class students, architecture has changed
tremendously in the last couple of decades where demographic set up of
students has gone through tremendous changes; and students from varied
social background, disciplines, and streams have come to join Architecture
colleges. Career in Architecture is attractive, high paying, and has lots of
potential in terms of growth. Besides the required criteria, some essential skills
are also required for a career in architecture.
An architect is someone who loves to design, and is specifically trained and
licensed to work on the planning and design of buildings. The facets of an
architect's role are as varied and fascinating as their work; these are
professionals who lead the process of creating functional spaces, from
concept and design to a full realization of those designs.

 Architecture is built; it is construction; it is technology.

 Architecture is a response to functional needs;it is a product with
performance standards.
 Architecture is social action.Every building either gives to or takes from the
social milieu. They can create new public domains. They can make
schools into places that stimulate learning.They can bring nature into
people's everyday lives.They can create social housing.
 Architecture is history as it is a part of behavioural pattern which persists
over. It is a process in the present,which draws on the past and creates
the future.

Designs are not just choosing colours of the building and placing windows in a
symmetrical fashion. It's much more than that. If you give freedom to an
Architect, he can make the building smart and effective in function.
He/She can create a self-sustainable building. An Architect can truly make a
huge difference in this society,but unfortunately many people are eating into
an Architect's profession. Design is the most powerful tool. Design can solve
many problems even before it even surfaces up. We are forced to a lot of
limitations with respective to 'cost'.

Creativity is being salvaged for various external factors. Eg. Vastu

We do appreciate certain facts of Vastu from a science perspective but we
cannot completely adhere to it as a norm.
We rise the most in this field with your own practice , financially or fraternally .
An architect is supposed to earn on the basis of percentage of project cost /
per unit area basis . The standards of architect's fees vary according to the
cities as well as the fame, skill and experience of the architect . Architects may
even indulge in the allied fields such as interior design , landscape
architecture, etc which adds to the fees.
Many courses in our First Year like 'Graphics and Visual Communication" and
"Basic Design" will be very artistic. We should expect lots of time and effort to
be invested in these projects.

Our life's goal is not Placements

Many people in IIT start off with a very narrow minded approach basing all
their actions on maximizing their chances in the Placements.

We will grow up immensely in these 5 years and what will be important to us,
will change. We have come here after years of studying and its now time to
develop as a human being. Unlike other Departments, we don't have a chance
to change your Department, so its okay to not worry about CG as long as it
stays decent like 8+.
Conclusion
It is our own drive which guides our growth in this field . We may still be doing
a job and be content with the salary we receive; go ahead and become a
businessman to earn ten folds; or care less about money and more about
contribution to the field through creating masterpieces , researching about
new ways to better architecture , providing sustainable solutions for future or
becoming famous for a specific aspect/style of architecture we created .Finally
