Temple Hills Residence, United States Shubam Garg (14110033) B.

Arch V year

DESCRIPTION

The project is an addition and remodel to an existing 1940’s post

and beam beach cottage located in Laguna Beach, California.
Sitting harmoniously side by side these two elements of the house
are connected through a thin sheet of glass. Forming the base of
sustainable strategies employed throughout the home is the reuse
of the entire existing home. In addition, solar orientation, deep
overhangs and operable glass allow the house to breath throughout
the year with little assistance.

INFERENCES

The design is a study in connections.

The design captures the essence of the existing cottage and then reinterprets the traditional post and beam into something unique.
The mix of exposed building materials forms the pallet of the home eliminating the need for additional finishes.
Nestled into a steeply sloping property.

DESCRIPTION

The housing project in the western part of the Bodrum peninsula on the Aegean Hills which were designed for British, Irish and North European users received 2007 CNBC International
Property Awards and 2007 Houses Overseas Awards Gold Medal. The 30 villas are positioned to make the most of the sea view and the landscape. The villas are planned for families
that will stay for an average of seven days.

INFERENCES

Each level of the villas is designed to have direct access to the

garden which allows nature to interact with the interiors.
The wooden elements are repeated at several points in the project
as standard elements, sometimes as horizontal and vertical
sunscreens depending on the direction, or sometimes as screening
elements for privacy. A new interpretation of the Mediterranean
Architecture using white, blue and green is combined with the
design’s minimalistic forms.

INFERENCES

The unique location of the hotel and building requirements

meant that only 2 floors of structure were permitted above
the street level. What seems like a crippling restriction was
turned into an opportunity to design a mesmerizing
getaway with four private levels carefully carved into the
hillside.

The design allows the hotel to blend into the backdrop

even while ensuring that view of travelers using the winding
mountain road is as unhindered as possible.

The four lower levels also offer sweeping views of the

Kotmale reservoir, waterfalls in the distance and the
greenery beyond.
