The 4 7 Series is suppl ied with the High Performance trim as
stand ard. When specialist applications are required, alternative
materials o f construction ar e ava ilable w ith colour -coded
h andle sleeves for sim ple va lve s pecification and service duty
iden tifica tio n. If you require an alternative colour to those
indicated below, VAAS are able to source and supply accordingly.

FLOATING BALL
The VAAS "float ing ball" provides s uperior ball-se at shu t off, HIGH PERFORMANCE SERVICE
wh ilst offe ring redu ced seat wear a nd dec re ased torque
figures. Und er pressure , the closed ball is pu shed into th e
downstream sea t, t hereby creating a bubble - tight sh utoff.
THERMAL SERVICE
Meanwhile, the upstream seat util ises line pressure t o floa t
towa rd s th e ball an d away from th e body, thereby equ alising
cavity pr essu r e with upstream press ure v ia equalising slots
at the perimeter of the seat. Operating t orqu e is reduced by the
ba ll sealing against one seat at a time, and also due to the lack

For inc r eased flow co ntrol, VAAS offer a range of profiled
bal l ori fices th at can be sized spec ifically to the users given
parameters. The range of V- ori fice balls offer linear or
exponential flow contro l rates, w hilst the L - port configurations
offer side-entry or bottom -e ntry di rectional control. Other opt ions
include P250 press ure re l ief holes and surface - treatments suc h
as Hard - Chrome plating and Nickel Nitridi ng.

FEATURES
REDUCED BORE & FULL BORE
The VAAS 47 Series is available in both reduced and
full bore confi gurations.
Redu ced bore valves utilise a reduced ball l/ D to crea te a
downstream pressure drop, thereby increasing flow ve locity
throu gh the va lve assembly. This facilitates the use of a smaller
body vs Full- Bore config urations, w hich in- turn offers the user
redu ced costs vs full bore design.
Full bore valves have a ball l/ D equa l t o the l i ne l/D, which
offers maximum flow aga i nst m i nimal pressure drop.
FULL BORE REDUCED BORE
ANTI-STATIC DEVICE
Continual electrical contact between all metallic co mponents,
as per BS 5351, is present w ithin all VAAS 47 Se rie s va lves.
This is achieved by means of an e nergised insert wi thin
th e stem assembly, which is in co nsta nt contact with th e
valve body stem cavity. For va lves above 2" bore, a si milar
arrangement is adopted between th e valve stem and
floating ball.

STEM ASSEMBLIES
All VAAS ball valves are fitted with blowout - proof stem
assemblies. All stems are live -loaded through Bellville spring
was hers, th ereby compensating for temperature & pressure
fluctuations as we ll as thrust washer wear. Th e stem retaining
nut is encapsulated within a castellated was her, in order
to eliminate unwanted nut movemen t through rotational
ope ration of the valve assembly.
STANDARD STEM FIRESAFE STEM
Standard ('h"-2 Y2")
Body-stem seal achieved through a single thrust washe r, with
stem-centering achieved through stem packing rings, followed
by a stainless stee l centering gland. All compone nts held in
place by stem nut fitted with anti -loose washe r , with rigid
ope rating handle retained by additiona l stem nut.
Standard (3"-6")
As above, except operating handle r ep laced by t op-loaded stem
boss, through which a pipe wrench is in serted.
0-Ring Assembly
0 - ring seals are fitted instead of standa r d stem glands,
when valves are handling sea r ching gas, high -vacuum
processes, or "special" media such as ammo nia. The 0-ring
design is based on a radial- seal principal, and is secured in
position by a bearing with stai nle ss stee l location washe r.
High-Cycle
High-Cycle applications which involve unusually high operation
rates require higher stem assembly spec ifi cations. VAAS are
able to offer all ball valves wit h su rface-treated special-alloy
stems and high-wear stem thrust sea l s. The assembly may
also be complemented with the 0-ring gland arrangeme nt
mentioned above.
