Following diagrams show various possibilities to produce Domestic Hot Water (DHW) with sanitaries
criteria generaly considered as satisfactory. They are only "principle" and cannot engaged Accor's
liability. The various engineering and design departments shall interpret and adapt these diagrams to
make the final execution drawings, according the real project.

REMARKS
DHW production using electricity is acceptable only if electricity is the unique energy source available on the site. I

A : Setting valve, to adjust perfectly the flow of the pump.

B : Water flow is at least 30 liters/hour per rooms.
C : The 3 way-valve adjust the outgoing temperature at 55°C, mixing the return hot water and the cold wat er.
D : For informations about the tank please refer to the specific dwg, here details are missing.
E : The DHW return connection is done :
- preferably on the last tank, this one is on permanent heating mode,
- the last but one.
F : All tank should have a set of by-pass and isolating valves for maintenance.
G : 1 (or more) valve(s) for connection of chemical product injection set (chlorine...)
H : Tap, located in the technical room, to take sample of water (biologic analysis).
I : The output is set at 55°C, the return is around 52 °C. Exceptionnaly it should be possible to rise the output temperature at about 75°C in order to disinf ect
the pipes by thermal shock.
J : Thermostat for alarm temperature ("too high" or "too low").
K : A softener is necessary if the water hardness is > 18° french.

REMARKS

A : Setting valves to adjust the water retun flow at about 30 liters/hour per room (for ex. 3,6 m3/h for a 120 rooms hotel).
B : Dual pump selected for more than 30l/h per room.
C : The 3 way-valve set the outgoing temperature at 55°C by mixing cold water and return water. In case o f incident, this valve
can-be manually by-passed. The regulation shall be hi-quality (speedy action, no temperature variation).
D : For informations about the tank please refer to the specific dwg, here details are missing.
E : The DHW return connection is done preferably after the plate exchanger (to avoid pressure loss problems); the sensor
controling the temperature should be after the mixing of return water and heated water.
F : All tank should have a set of by-pass and isolating valves for maintenance.
G : 1 (or more) valve(s) for connection of chemical products injection set (chlorine...).
H : Tap, located in the technical room, to take samples of water (biologic analysis).
I : The output is set at 55°C, the return is around 52 °C. Exceptionnaly it should be possible to rise the output temperature at
about 75°C in order to disinfect the pipes by therm al shock.
J : Temperature drop between the outgoing and the return should be less than 3°C.
K : Plate exchanger with, not mentionned on this dwg, devices for easy intoduction of cleaning products.
L : Thermostat for alarm temperature ("too high" or "too low").
M : A softener is necessary if the water hardness is > 18° french.

PRINCIPES GENERAUX : Connection of the return To rooms
loop principles STANDARDS
A : The temperature inside tanks is maintened at about 60°C, which is enough to destroy the
legionella in few minutes.
Mercure
B : The water is distributed at 55°C, this in order to avoid any high temperature at the tap (risk of DHW
burn).
return PRODUCTION
C : The DHW is looped, a set of pumps circulates water continously. This water return with a
temperaure drop less than 3°C (outgoing 55, return 53) B A working
D : In order to get a total independancy of water flow from the tank in one hand and the loop in
the second hand, the plate exchanger pump and the circulating pump shall not be in serial. principles
Consequently the return loop is connected either on point B (after exchangeur) or in point C
(before exchangeur). In this last point, care should be taken with the pessure drop inside the cold water n° date : 11/02

The return loop arrive, in one hand, on the 3 way regulating valve and, on the second hand,
after the exchanger. This arrangement turn part of water towards the 3 ways valve to reduce
the temperature; the remaining arrive in the circuit noted A. The connection is made
preferably in "B" (take care for temperature control) or in "C" (take care for pressure drop).

There is no needs of hot water : cold water does not enter any more. The exchanger pump is
still running, it sucks the cold water initially entered inside the first tank and refill the last tank :
Great quantity of cold water arrives : what is not able to pass through the pump enter inside the DHW is re-stored. Their is DHW production AND storage as soon as the DHW demand is
the tanks and push the hot water : there is stock reduction of DHW. lower than the flow capacity of the exchanger pump.
