Viper Cabinet 28/07/15 Issue E
2.1 General
The Viper is a one compartment cabinet designed to be used in the UK on cell site locations. The compartment provides
a secure weather protected environment for the safe housing of a PSU, 22U rack space for equipment and electrical
connection equipment. The cabinet life expectancy under normal atmospheric conditions is 20 years, subject to regular
routine maintenance.
2.4 Dimensions
The cabinet footprint is 600mm wide and 520mm deep.
The overall height of the cabinet is 1405mm.
For weights see section 3.2.
2.5 Finish
All of the cabinet parts will be finished with polyester powder coat paint except where components are made from
corrosion resistant self-colour materials. See appendix 1 for paint specification.
2.6 Insulation
Insulation is provided around the thermally managed compartment. The Polyurethane based material provides a thermal
resistance of 0.75m²-K/W. See appendix 2 for data sheet.

The cabinet has been designed to be lifted by the detachable lifting lugs mounted on both sides of the cabinet. The
cabinet has been designed to withstand the loads applied under lifting conditions (NOT LOADED) when lifted using the
two lifting eyes not provided with the cabinet. The all up lifting load should not exceed 90Kg. Lifting details see appendix
8.
2.9 Mounting
The cabinet can be mounted either to a pre-installed free standing or fixed frame on a roof top, concrete plinth, or to a pre-
installed galvanised steel root. In either case it is fixed in four positions using M10 fixings. See appendix 3 for installation
instruction.
Each installation is factory assembled and tested by a competent person certified to issue a NIC EIC certificate. A
completed copy of this certificate is to be dispatched within each cabinet.
A copy of the electrical schematic to which the cabinet has been built will be stowed in the cabinet.
2.14 Earths
The cabinet is fully earthed and tested internally in accordance with current legislation.
Note: the fan controller is not designed for hot pluggable operation, do not remove or insert any connector in the system
while the power to the controller is on. Switch off PSU MCB.
2.16 Alarms
All alarms are normally closed in the energised condition (Open on alarm).
The alarms provided within the cabinet are routed to a Krone connection block.
The alarms are in a standard configuration for 3UK/EE.

High Temperature
If the temperature detected by the sensor connected to input Temp 1 reaches 60 Deg C the controller will indicate a High
Temperature Alarm by opening the Normally Closed contacts of the Alarm 2 Relay and the LED will flash RED/GREEN.
The High Temperature alarm will be turned off if the temperature drops to 58 Deg C
General
In the event of a controller failure such that there is no output from the microcontroller the fans will operate at maximum
speed and the General Alarm relay will be de-energized, there will typically be no LED indication in this unlikely situation
the Over temperature and under temperature alarms will not give an alarm indication

Root Installation instructions
Product: Viper Cabinet.
Procedure: Installation.
Summary: To install the cabinet on an in ground root.
Note:
THIS INSTALLATION DETAIL IS FOR GUIDANCE ONLY SITE SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OR CTIL BUILD GUIDANCE IS TO TAKE
PRECEDENCE.
Installing plinth
1. Hole to be excavated to suit local ground conditions.
2. Form work to be made up to cast top 100mm of concrete plinth above with straight sides. This will leave a tidy cast slab above and
just below ground level.
3. If required position ducts to drawing supplied by others.
4. Care should be taken to ensure that the top surface of the concrete is level +/- 2mm in all directions from the centre. The outer edge
of the concrete plinth should be dressed to shed water.
5. If the plinth is to be set against a wall or any other solid object a minimum gap of 200mm must be provided.
6. The panels on the plinth can be removed before the plinth is fitted to allow access to the underside.
7. The plinth is to be fixed to the concrete pad by using four M10 fixings. (Sit on a bead of mastic and shimmed level). These will be
resin anchor type. The holes for these can be either pockets cast in to the concrete plinth or drilled after the concrete has set.
Fixing cabinet:
1. Clean top face of plinth to provide smooth mating face.
2. Place a liberal bead of sealant supplied on the top face of the plinth.
3. Lift cabinet in to final position.
4. The cabinet is to be secured to the plinth using the 6 No M10 x 25 set screws supplied. These are fitted with a large OD washer
inside the cabinet (upward facing face) and a lock washer on the underside to the face of the plinth. Tighten M10 nuts and set screws
to approx 20 Nm.
5. Apply a neat bead of sealant round the outside of the cabinet at the joint with the plinth.
6. Check that doors opens and closes correctly.
7. Following installation of all cables through the ducts, seal the ducts.
