Introduction

Animator skills play an important role in the creation of a videogame, a movie or a

television show. Animators are artists that create animators, special effects and more, using

computer software and electronic tools.

According to various authors, researchers and practitioners creativity in animation

production is more important than the application of technical skills. Lack of creative skills

is one related problem with highly skilled people in the operation of computer programs.

And according to Jade Kandel, locally, it depends if you are interested in storyboarding

and character development side of animation, or simply in 2D animation in general than

drawing is a critical skill to have. If you are interested in the computer side and how to

create things digitally, then you will suffice without drawing. But in general, most

animators are talented artists.

This study will be conducted at Commonwealth High School (CHS), a public

school in barangay Commonwealth, located at Quezon City and is one of the largest High

Schools in the city by student population. CHS is dully recognized national secondary

school of the division of City Schools. It has served at least your barangays, providing

equal opportunities to qualify education to each client since 1986.

Statement of the problem

This study investigates the views and opinions of ICT-Animation students about

the critical skills required for entry level animators in computer generated or digital

animation design.

An animator not only creates animations, it has to give its characters life and for that

animators need to be very talented, to be creative, to master technical skills, the art of

movement and other skills that you will discover further.

Most of Animators should have this critical skills in technical, Graphic design and

analyzing. These are just three of more critical skills in animation. (1) Technical animator

skills combines the artistic skills with practical skills. Drawing skills is very important to

have because it is easier for you to sketch your ideas. This includes and io/video editing

and cutting edge software like adobe flash/ 3D studio max, and more. (2) Graphic design

skills is a knowledge on how to create figures, visual effects and how to make animations

more real to line. (3) Analyzing skills is an attention paying of an animator. Animators

should details small details like where the character is looking, now fast the figure should

move an eye blink etc.

This study assess with the critical skills in animation which entry the level

animators are required to acquire in order to secure animation jobs. (1) To define animation

and what critical skills are qualify/needed. (2) To observe the qualifications of animation

students, how they apply their critical skills of being an animator. (3) To conduct a

questionnaire survey and to interview practitioners at Commonwealth High School grade

11 and grade 12 ICT- Animation.

Three primary questions of this study seeks to engage are. (1) Do students of ICT

combined the artistic skills for them to able to have the technical animator skill. (2) Do

animators have great knowledge about graphic motion, create figures nor do visual effects?

And (3) Are they observant or can analyze easily and is it important to detail the small

details of animators and bring this is more professional look?

Scope and Delimitation

Some essential critical skills animator should have are: (1) Technical animator’s

skills where drawing is very important to have for easier and faster sketching the ideas on

a paper. Artistic skills and practical skills must be combined. This include audio/video

editing and cutting edge software like adobe flash, 3D studio max etc. 12 principles of

animation must learn to be aware. (2) Graphic design skills is to bring elements to life.

Creating figures usual effects and now to make animations move alive. Knowledge about

graphic motion is needed. (3) You need to understand color theory to be a successful

animator. Knowing how to use colors on your character, how to communicate and to

express different emotions, feelings etc. is perfect. (4) Sense of timing and spacing is

knowing how to be able to move elements in a natural and smooth move. (5) Analyzing

skills is to make your animation a more professional look you need to observe and analyze

every small details of everything that surrounds it. (6) Originality makes mark and create

originality animations that make your character will remember and unique. (7) Animators

should be able to cooperate with others in a team. Be responsible of works, preserving and

innovative and creative.

Significance

The gathered information of this study can be use directly by the Commonwealth

High School Senior Administrators, ICT- Animation Teachers and Parents of ICT Students

and especially for the ICT- Animation students in Senior High, also the junior high students

who are planning/interested to take track TVL- ICT- Animation. The result can also guide

the animation industry.

(a) Commonwealth High School Senior Administrators- will be able to have more

information for what ICT Students most needed materials in taking the animation,: (b) ICT

Animation Teachers- will have more knowledge of easier techniques in training the

animation students and lessen pressures for those students that took ICT but not yet having

strong critical skills of animation but become a motivator to continue those students will.

(c) Parents of the ICT Students- for they are going to be aware with these kind of track

chosen by their children or will be choose and either give more support because there’s a

lot of job opportunities in animation. (d) TCT- Animation Students- will gain lots of

information about the risk taking this animation as a course and what what should they do

to have the critical skills still not too late for them to learn more, as long as the interest of

studying animation is in their hearts, the game is not yet over.

Proposed study: An assessment of the critical skills in animation among the Grade 11

and Grade 12 Animation Student of Commonwealth High School.

1.) State the rationale of the research problem. Start from international context to local

personal circumstances.

2.) Describe the setting where your study is to conduct.

3.) Indicate the terms of variables (concepts) that need to be defined, clarified or

described to your reader.

4.) Search for related literature that you can use to define the main variable of your study.

Collect at least 3 references per variable. Write down the definitions.

5.) Determine the seriousness of your research problem. Show statistical evidence of its

gravity. Give example details of the reference.

6.) State the general objective of the research study.

7.) After the research has been conducted or the problem has been solved, identify the

people or entities that will benefit from the research and direct the benefits they will

get from it.

Commonwealth High School (CHS) is a public school in barangay Commonwealth,

located at Quezon City and is one of the largest high schools in the city by student

population. CHS is duly recognized national secondary school of the Division of City

Schools. It has served at least four barangays, providing equal opportunities to qualify

education to each client since 1986.

This study investigates the views and options of ICT- Animation Students about

The literature review chapters of the study clarify the terms animation and creativity

examine the change taking place in the animation discipline, and discuss the relative roles

of technical and creative skills in computer animation productions.

This study seeks to engage with these three primary question:

- Do students of animation combined the artistic skills with practical skills for them

to be able to have a technical animator skills nor do they have strong drawing skills to be

more easier to sketch their ideas and faster. – Do these animation students have knowledge

about graphic motion, can create figures nor can do visual effects? To be known as a

Graphic designer and – Are they observant or can analyze every small details of animations

and bring this in more professional look by having analyzing skills?

6.) State the general objective of the research study.

This study assess with the critical skills in animation jobs. (1) To clarify the

meaning of the team animation and (2) to conduct a questionnaire survey and to interview

practitioners at Commonwealth High School grade 11 and 12 ICT animation students. (3)

To observe if they’re qualify of being an animators.

7.) After the research has been conducted or the problem has been solved, identify the

people or entities that will benefit from the research and direct the benefits they will

get from it.

The gathered information of this study can be use directly by Commonwealth

Senior High Administrators, ICT - Animation Teachers and Parents of ICT students and

especially for the ICT- Animation students in Senior High also the students who are

planning to take the course ICT- Animation. The result can also guide the development of

the South Africa animation industry and the revision of multimedia curricular.

Comm High Administrators - Will be able to have more information in what are

the ICT Students needed in taking the Animation, and for them to be well inform the

students who are having the critical skills of an animators that they are able to take the

Strand TVL ICT- Animation.

ICT Animation teachers- will have more knowledge of easier techniques on how to

train Animation Students and lessen the pressure of those students that are taking ICT but

not having strong critical skills of an animator.

Parents of the Animation Students- for they are going to be aware with these kind

of track chosen by their children and either support them more because of animation job

opportunities.

ICT- Animation Students- will gain lot information about taking Animation and

what should they do to have the critical skills of being a great animator, knowing that those

who didn’t have yet this critical skills still not late to learn more, as long as the interest of

animation and studying is in their hearts, the game is not yet over.
