The course objective is to give good knowledge and understanding of wind loading
amongst practicing engineers. This course is one of the major professional courses for
civil engineering students. The wind loading of structures has significant research
effort tin many countries during the last 30years. In many countries, wind loading
governs the design of many structures. Therefore, applying wind resistant design on
various kinds of engineering structures, improving the performance of structures is
the fundamental solution to address the mitigation of a kind of natural disaster. The
task of this course let the students processing the basic knowledge and principle of
natural wind and engineering requirement, pave the way of solving wind resistant
design and construction for the students furthermore.

The students will learn the basic concept of wind loading and their effects on
different type of structures, which may cause disaster and structural collapse. With
this course the students should know the parameters of type of wind pressure process
and design codes/standards; Davenport spectrum; basic of bluff body aerodynamics;
random analysis of wind induced vibration of structures; wind tunnel and test
method; wind resistant design of typical structures; et al. Finally, the students possess
solid foundation to engage into the design and mitigation of wind induced disaster for
structures.

The course objective is to help the students to gain an in-depth understanding of the
behavior of steel structures, and grasp the response of steel structures under all kinds
of loading condition and environmental effects, including the characteristics of the
steel material, the impact of each stage during the fabrication and the erection process
on the structural members, the environmental effects on the structure and its response
under various types of loading, the consequence of different structural forms and
connections details.

of concrete structures is addressed under different loading conditions and
environments. This course is mainly concerned with the strength and deformation

includes: mechanics of material, structural strength principals, structural ductility, the
deformation and stiffness of structural under serviceability limit state, structural
durability, the latest advance, etc. This course help students master the strength and
deformation theory of different members and acknowledge the last advance on this

The course objective is to help the students to gain an in-depth understanding of the
theory and its application concerning the stability analysis of different kinds of steel
structures and steel members.

In the introductory part, basic concepts, different types of stability analysis and its
application in the steel structures are introduced. In Chapter 2, various theoretical
analyzing methods and applications of stability problems are discussed. The stability
analysis of different components (including plate components) in the steel structures
is introduced in Chapter 3 and 4. Chapter 5 to 9 introduce the stability analysis of
several widely used steel structures, as well as different designing methods and
measures to increase stability. Various types of steel structures, including Multi- story
steel frame structure, steel arc structures, shell structures, cable- supported structures
and steel bridges, are discussed in this course.

The course objective is to help the students to obtain the basic concept of earthquake
engineering and aseismic engineering. With this course the students should know the

structural linear/nonlinear response and stochastic response analysis method; clearly
with modern engineering vibration resistant theory and method; should familiar with
modern aseismic engineering construction method. Finally, the students possess solid
foundation to engage into the mitigation of earthquake disaster after graduated from
school.

China suffers many earthquakes and seismic resistant area of mainland of China is
82.7%. In the seismic damage history shows that the casualties and economic loss
caused by the earthquake mainly comes out from the building damage and structures
collapse. Therefore, applying seismic design on various kinds of engineering
structures, improving the seismic performance of structures is the fundamental
solution to address the mitigation of earthquake disaster.
The task of this course let the students processing the basic knowledge and principle

The objective of this course is to teach students the hydrodynamics of ships and
offshore structures. Because now the oil and gas exploration is moving into deep
water, there is a need for master students to know about sea loads.

This course mainly includes: introduction of sea environment, linear water-induced
motions and loads on floating structures, numerical methods for linear wave-induced
motions and loads, second-order non-linear problems, Station keeping and mooring
systems, current and wind loads, water impact and entry.
The main purpose of this course is to provide the knowledge of sea loads on ships and
offshore structures for students in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Port
and coastal Engineering with non-mathematical background. However, knowledge in
calculus including vector analysis and differential equations is necessary. The
students should also be familiar with basic hydrodynamics of potential and viscous
flow.
