• Manages the DHS appropriations process which entails developing the subcommittee agenda; analyzing the budget
request; drafting the Senate bill and report; and enacting annual appropriations laws.
• Directs the subcommittee staff in overseeing the Department's $48 billion in discretionary appropriations and works in
concert with minority counterparts, House staff, and other relevant Member offices and committees.
• Advises Senators on homeland security issues and appropriations activities, including recommending priorities;
conducting hearings and meetings; and monitoring relevant House, executive branch, and authorization actions.
• Regularly interacts with Department leadership, House and Senate members and colleagues, and outside stakeholders on
strategy, policy, priorities, and interests.
