Question Statement True False

1 Chairmanship of an ISO TC is carried out by an approved

Chairman and up to two Vice-Chairs, each of whom must
come from a developing country

2 An ISO TC or SC may establish a Project Committee to

develop a standard that does not fall within its existing scope
(as stated in its Strategic Business Plan)

3 An O-member of a TC may be granted P-membership of

one of its SCs, without having to change its membership in
the parent TC from O- to P-

4 A WG, which consists of technical experts acting in their

personal capacities, elects a convenor to liaise with the
parent TC or SC

5 Experts in a WG are appointed by the P- and O- members,

as well as by the A-, B- and D- liaisons

6 When developing an International Standard, the FDIS stage

may be omitted, but ONLY when no negative votes and no
technical comments have been received at the DIS stage.

7 An enquiry draft (DIS) is approved if

a) a two-thirds majority of the votes cast by the P-and O-
members of the technical committee or subcommittee are in
favour, and

b) not more than one-quarter of the total number of

votes cast are negative.

Abstentions from O-members are excluded when the votes

are counted, as well as negative votes not accompanied by
technical reasons.
8 A maximum of only two corrigenda or two amendments (or
one of each) is permitted when modifying an International
Standard. Should a third such modification be required, it will
be necessary to revise the standard, in other words to
prepare a “Revision”, which requires a new project to be
initiated

9 Technical Committees and Subcommittees may develop

International Standards, Technical Reports, Technical
Specifications and Publicly Available Specifications, but may
not develop Guides

10 A “Revision” of an International Standard is different from

what is known within ISO as a “Systematic Review”

11 There is no obligation on a host to provide social functions

during ISO meetings, and in general accredited delegates
shall not be obliged to pay a fee as a condition of their
participation in ISO meetings

12 The Press may not attend working sessions of ISO

meetings, but:

 they may, if invited, attend opening and closing

plenaries, and
 press conferences and briefings may be held outside
meeting sessions

13 Technical Reports (TR) have no limit to their lifetime.

14 The DIS ballot is now a 20 weeks ballot

15 In terms of ISO’s Global Relevance Policy, and of the WTO /

TBT Agreement, a globally relevant standard should not give
preference to characteristics or requirements of specific
countries or regions when different needs or interests exist
in other countries or regions
