Section 1: MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Color Monitor with 256 color graphic capabilities
16-bit Sound Blaster(R) or 100% compatible sound card and speakers

Laser or inkjet printer required to output Barbie(TM) Magic Hair Styler(TM)
pictures

Section 2: SETTING PREFERENCES

------------------------------

To set preferences, go to the screen where you can choose from among Barbie(TM) and
her friends and click on the pink "B" at the bottom of the screen. You will have a
choice of the following:

A. Music/Sound Effects: Click this button if you would prefer to have all music
and sound effects OFF (default is ON).

B. Skip Introduction Animation: Click this button if you would always prefer to
begin the program without seeing the opening animation.

C. Finale: With the Still option, you will not see the default animated movie of
Barbie in the look you created for her, but your performance may be better on a
machine with less than 16Mb of RAM.

D. Voice Prompts: Click one of these to determine how much Barbie will say. With
Talks A Lot (the default), she will help you through the program every step of the
way. With Talks A Little, she will tell you once about your different options.
With Silent, she won't say anything.

E. Performance: Click one of these based on your system. If you have a 486/66, we
recommend that you choose the Speed option for improved performance. The default
Special Effects button enables small animations and special highlights throughout
the program.

Section 4: GENERAL COMMENTS

A. Please note that when applying accessories to a selected doll's head, the user
must determine the correct location for the accessories, as there are no arrows on
the screen to identify where to place accessories.

B. Contrary to what is stated in the manual, a user is able to brush the hair on a
selected doll after placing a headband on the doll.

C. A NOTE TO PARENTS: Please be aware that the printing portion of this program
has been developed so that, although any word can be typed into the text box under
a picture in the Frame Shop, many objectionable words will be blocked from being
printed.

D. Please note that pictures printed out will automatically be sized to your
landscape or portrait paper setting. There is no need to change your default paper
settings from "landscape" to "portrait", or vice versa.

Section 5: INSTALLING AND UNINSTALLING

-------------------------
A. WINDOWS(R) 95 - INSTALLATION
-Insert the Barbie(TM) Magic Hair Styler(TM)CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive
-If you have the Auto Insert notification feature enabled for your CD-ROM drive,
the installation will start automatically. If not, please follow the next step
below.
-From the START Menu, select RUN, BROWSE and click on the Setup.exe icon. Or from
BROWSE, type d:\setup (d: refers to your CD-ROM drive letter).
-Choose the "Setup" button and follow the on screen prompts to complete the
installation process.
-After the installation is completed, you will have the choice of running the
Barbie(TM) Magic Hair Styler(TM) application from the Desktop icon that is created
automatically during the installation process, or manually by going to the START
menu from the Windows(R)95 Taskbar, then to PROGRAMS, and then to BARBIE MAGIC HAIR
STYLER.

D. WINDOWS(R)95 - UNINSTALLING
-From the BARBIE(TM) MAGIC HAIR STYLER(TM) program folder found by going to START,
PROGRAMS, BARBIE MAGIC HAIR STYLER Program Group, double click on the Uninstall
icon and follow the on-screen instructions.
-You may also remove the program by going to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL and
then double clicking on the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS icon. From the Install/Uninstall
tab, scroll down until you find the BARBIE(TM) MAGIC HAIR STYLER(TM) directory.
Highlight the directory and click ADD/REMOVE.
-Please note that if you uninstall the program, you will lose any pictures or
images that you have saved.

Section 6: SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TIPS

-------------------------
The Windows(R)95 operating system is set up to automatically adjust for optimal
performance. We therefore do not suggest changing any performance settings in the
Windows(R)95 operating system. If you are encountering any performance issues,
make sure you have the minimum system requirements and refer to the setting
preferences, general troubleshooting techniques and compatibility sections of this
read-me file.

Section 7: GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

--------------------------
A. IF THE PROGRAM RUNS SLOWLY, FREEZES, OF IF THE COLORS APPEAR TO DISPLAY
INCORRECTLY:
1.) Close any unnecessary applications that may be running in the background.
2.) Check your hardware acceleration rate:
-Right Click on the MY COMPUTER Icon found on your desktop.
-Click on PROPERTIES found at the bottom of the pull-down menu.
-Click on the PERFORMANCE tab.
-Click on the GRAPHICS button at the bottom of the Performance Window.
-Slide the Acceleration button from FULL to BASIC.
-Click on OK and follow the instructions to re-start your computer to save your
changes.

B. IF DISPLAY OR GRAPHICS PROBLEMS OCCUR:

If you experience display or graphics problems while running Barbie(TM) Magic Hair
Styler(TM):
-Make sure that your display setting is at 640x480 resolution and 256 colors. Refer
to your system or Windows(R) documentation.
-Contact your video card or systems vendor to obtain the latest version of their
video driver.
-Make sure other applications are not running while Barbie(TM) Magic Hair
Styler(TM) is running.

C. IF DIFFICULTIES ARE ENCOUNTERED WHILE PRINTING:

-Make sure your computer is not connected to a network printer. This program is not
recommended for use on a network system.
-Make sure that you are able to print from Windows(R) with other applications.
-Contact your printer manufacturer for the latest version of print drivers for your
printer.

Section 8: COMPATIBILITY ISSUES

-----------------------
A. THIRD-PARTY SHELLS
If you are using a program shell other than the Windows(R) Program Manager (e.g.,
Norton(R) Desktop) and are experiencing trouble installing or playing BARBIE(TM)
Magic Hair Styler(TM), try changing the shell back to the standard Windows(R)
Program Manager. Refer to your shell documentation or call your shell vendor if you
need assistance.
B. SCREEN SAVERS
If you are running a screen saver in the background and experience video and sound
problems during the program or are unable to see the finale, disable the screen
saver and the problem should be solved. Refer to your user documentation on how to
disable the screen saver.
