AURAR 901 IX & X Semesters
Credits: 60 Marks: 400 (200I+200E)
The Students of V year of B.Arch. shall undergo a one year practical training program in an
architectural firm for a stipulated period of 12th June 2018 to 15th April 2019 (45 Weeks),
as a part of their curriculum during IX and X semesters.
1 Training Objectives
The main objective of the Practical Training Program is to introduce students to the
Professional & Practical aspects and issues in Architecture, by acquainting with an extensive
training program under an eminent Architect’s Practical expertise. The Training programme
within stipulated time period with a Professional approach and the work culture of the
office facilitates the trainees Improve their skills right from conceptualization to Site
execution, by balancing both theoretical & practical.
Students are expected to observe, analyse & Practice the design Approach and Problem
solving methodologies in Office based on the Philosophy and strategies of the principal
architect. Students should acquire and get trained in below mentioned objectives.
Students shall undergo the practical training under any of the following architectural
consultancies with respective specializations and nature of expertise.
Contemporary architectural projects
Energy Efficiency / Green mechanisms
Low cost / vernacular systems etc
Students should furnish the following details well in advance so as to get the
approval from the school of architecture for undergoing training
Students shall submit the joining report duly signed by the architect within 10 days
from the date of joining in the firm and a scanned copy of the same shall be mailed
to the coordinator within two working days from the date of joining.
Students shall prepare a detailed practical training report and furnish all the
requirements as mentioned in the Annexure - 1, ought to be submitted at the end of
the training program so as to produce before external jury.
Students must maintain at least 90% attendance – Mandatory (as per syllabus)
Hardcopy of monthly log report and attendance report duly signed by the chief
architect should be reached to the department on or before 10 th of every month.
And scanned copy of the same shall be mailed to the concerned mail id.
Students are requested to provide/update local contact number and address for
communication.
4. Evaluation Criteria
Students are required to compile and prepare a detailed practical training report as per
the prescribed format, annexing all the supportive drawings, documents, work sheets,
photographs & reports in a well presentable manner so as to put forth before the
external jury.

5. Chief Architect’s Profile (biography / design philosophy etc)
6. Office Profile (Nature of projects / office expertise / work nature / Project
managerial Aspects etc.,)
7. Projects handled (under different heads) along with supportive drawings and
documents.
8. Consolidated Log Book and attendance report.(formats shall be provided)
9. Site visits & Observations made by the Student (Min of 3 – 5 Projects) mandatory
Required to Prepare a Fact File containing (Project type, Location, Year of
Commencement, Year of Completion, Team, Site Area, Built-up Area, and Approx.
Project Cost) & Report on Individual Contribution in making of Working drawings or
Site supervisions
10. Report on Critical appraisal of any building that is being designed and executed by
the concerned office (Select a Completed project)
11. Estimate & Specification report Along with Concerned project’s Drawings

Type of binding: Hardbound with GSA cover page (as same as thesis report)
Colour of cover page: Cream/Blue textured
Student shall Submit the well-tailored Spiral bounded portfolio in below given sequence
with Cover page and backing sheet. (No violations are entertained)
Coverage ( Design up to student’s choice)
Table of Contents
Presentation Drawings (Rendered Floor plans/Site plans/Elevations/Sections, etc.)
3D Views (Interior/Exterior)
Working Drawings(Set of GFC Drawings) & Details (anything relevant to building)
Electrical & Plumbing Layouts (one whole project/Part of the Project)
Municipal Submission Drawings
Competition works/Additional Work/Skill test work etc.

Staff members shall be deputed during the year to the Architecture firms where the
students are undergoing Practical Training, to have interaction with the Chief Architect
and assess the performance of the students. Each of the confidential assessment report
provided by the faculty members shall be considered for final internal marking.
Students shall prepare a detailed Practical Training Report so as to present before and
evaluated the jury. An Extensive Viva-voce based on the report and presentation shall be
conducted to evaluate the trainee’s observations, experiences, leanings, and practical
exposure etc.

Note: Information once posted (mail/sms) shall be final and authentic. Students are
advised not to expect any information by phone call from office / coordinator.
End Note
This will be a cumulative result of all the above exercises compiled into a report form,
submitted in duplicate in the formats given by the college three days prior to the
Comprehensive viva-voce, failing which the student may not be allowed to appear for the
Viva. The Student is required to get the report stamped and signed by the architect’s
office to indicate the studies have been done during the tenure of Office training under
the professional guidance.
The School always would like to promote and encourage the students to reinforce their
design skills and explore practical issues under a systematic guidance of an eminent
architect in the process of transforming themselves to a complete professional.

1. Read the document carefully and compile the reports as per checklist provided.
2. “Practical Training Portfolio” comprises of 3 Major Items, they are
A. Practical Training Report (size A4: Portrait)
B. Drawings and Documents Record (size A3: Landscape)
C. Confidential Reports from the Chief architect in sealed envelope.
They are (Attendance cum leave report & Performance certificate)
3. Specific templates are annexed in the manual.
4. For the sake of uniformity - templates, size, orientation has been fixed for both the
report & Portfolio (A4 & A3). Students are requested to confine to the pre-set
formats.
5. Make necessary folding to A3 size for larger drawings if
6. It is the responsibility of the student to get the signature and seal on every drawing.
(At least take one signature for each project and initial/facsimile onto the rest of the
sheets in your portfolio. All the sheets should carry office seal)
7. Its student’s responsibility to collect the sealed envelope from your chief architect
before leaving and submit the same to the coordinator along with reports.
8. All the students are hereby informed to report and thereby submit the portfolio by
18th of April 2019 to the coordinator.
ANNEXURE -1 (CHECKLIST)
Students should submit the following particulars at the end of the Practical Training
Programme:
1. Training Certificate given by the Chief Architect.
2. Work Log Book & Type of Works involved, duly certified by the Chief Architect.
3. Performance Certificate in sealed envelope given by the Chief Architect during PT
inspection (As per enclosed Template 01 in Annexure – 2)
4. Attendance Report and Leave Report. (As per enclosed Template 02 in Annexure – 2)
5. Declaration by the student. (As per enclosed Template 03 in Annexure – 2)
6. Set of Municipal Drawings made by the Student during practical training.
7. Set of Working Drawings made by the Student during practical training.
8. Set of Presentation Drawings made by the student during practical training.
9. Report of Estimation and Costing done by the Student
10. Report of Project Site Visits made by the Student.
I, …….………………………………………, Hereby declare that the copy of the drawings taken with the
consent of the Office is purely for academic purpose on completion of my Practical Training Report &
VIVA -VOCE, with clear understanding that the Drawings will be returned as and when required by
the office.
