The elementary students are invited to process to the crib for Christmas Eve Mass at 5:30 pm. and sing Silent Night. They will have a
practice in church after school on Wednesday the 19th for approximately an hour.

The third and fourth graders will be collecting Birthright items during the Advent Season for their service project. Here is a list of
some of the things that can be brought for families in need: diapers sizes 3 and up, crib sheets, long sleeve onesies sizes 0 to 6
months, 12 month girl and 12-18 month boy clothing, body wash and shampoo, and desitin. If you would like to bring a gift for
Birth Right, please place your donation in the baby cradle in the back of church. We will be excited to have your help in providing
these things for little babies during these colds months.
Thank you…… Melissa Gerleman, Stacey Schade, and the third and fourth grade CCD class

FLOWERS & DECORATING FOR CHRISTMAS

It’s that time again! If you would like to purchase a flower in memory of a loved one to help decorate
the altars at Christmas, please call Donna (475-3794) or Laurie (475-3284) just as soon as you can.
We need to coordinate and order flowers by December 17. We are keeping your cost at $25 again
this year! We certainly do appreciate the very many generous donors we’ve had in the past!

ALSO, we will be decorating the altars and outdoors for Christmas AT 11:30 AM on Sunday, Dec. 23. We
could sure use the help of Pastoral/Finance councilmembers, St. Anne’s officers, and any youth that are
available. PLUS, we will GLADLY welcome any other volunteers! THANK YOU!
If not, join us on January 13,14, and 15 th at 7:00 pm for a 3 day Catholic Mission. Catholic speaker, best
selling author and radio host, Jon Leonetti will help us close the gap between the Gospel and our everyday
lives. Daycare will be provided to those who sign up toddlers- age 12. ( sign up sheet in back of church).

Also on the first night of the mission we will have a Chili supper from 5:30-6:30! If you haven’t signed up to
make cinnamon rolls there is a sign up sheet in the back of church!

Let’s take three nights for ourselves to get our 2019 Spiritual year headed in the right direction.

Although our Catholic school at St. Joseph has closed, it remains our parish mission to
promote Catholic education. Thus, St. Joseph has given $1,000 in subsidy for each of our two
elementary parishioners who attend Sacred Heart School in Emporia. Even though these
families pay their required tuition, we all know that the cost to educate these students far
exceeds what Sacred Heart requests for tuition (just as St. Joseph experienced while we were
open). If it is your specific intent to assist St. Joseph in supporting and promoting Catholic
education, we would very graciously welcome your donation to offset this subsidy. Please
make your check payable to “St. Joseph Church” and note Sacred Heart subsidy in the memo.
Thank you and God Bless!

MARRIAGE MINUTE
This week of Advent is ALL about joy! Not a sugar-coated “holiday feeling”, but a deep trust and peace that comes
from God and often “surpasses all understanding”. When asked how to get this joy, John the Baptist told people to
live their current situation well. In other words, focus your efforts on the vocation God has called you to.

Consider these options to increase your joy:

 Pray that God would help you see our spouse as God sees him or her.
 Affirm your husband’s or wife’s strength or beauty.
 Tell him or her why they are a great dad or mom.
As we lean into our vocation, joy is released. Consider a marriage retreat in the New Year:
