05 min Warm up: Review of idioms dealt with in Unit Three. Whole class
- In the bag - dead loss. She passed the exam with flying colours –
Kick the bucket - Shake a leg, etc.
- Under the weather: ill: You look a bit under the weather. What’s the
matter?
- An arm and a leg: Very expensive: A house in Casablanca costs an
arm and a leg.

Presentation: T. provides a situation in which some of the target idioms are


included. T. elicits their meanings.
Study this Example situation:

This was a piece of advice from a father to his son, who is a student.
Read it and underline the idioms: Individual work

 If I were in your shoes, I would start hitting the books the


soonest possible. You should learn to study regularly. It isn’t
useful to wait until the last week and then start cramming for your
exams. You should be optimistic. You should really keep your
fingers crossed. You know I’m always on the go, I can’t help
you!

Meanings: Teachers elicits and explains their meanings:


- In sb’s shoes: in sb’s situation. Whole Class
- Hit the books: To start studying: You should stop missing your classes
and start hitting your books. I know you have a test next week.
- To cram: to learn a lot of information in a short time.
- Keep your fingers crossed: hope that sb will be successful: Good luck
with you exam! We are keeping our fingers crossed for you.
