I seem to remember that w hen you do a SQL install it creates certain

groups in Active Directory (in a domain environment). How ever my
account does not have permission to create such groups. I am a local
admin on the machine (my domain account is) how ever. Is this a concern?
Exactly w hat type of permissions are required or recommended for the SQL

If you are getting error “the credential you provided for the sql server
agent is invalid”
One of the best w ay of handling this is to install it w ith a local account first.
Once SQL Server installed, now you can change the service account by changing
the user at services.msc
Change the service account, stop & start it. Its now w orking w ith your service
account.
Thanks.

Hi Pinal,
i am using w indow s 7 home basic 64 bit os. I’m having a shocking time
trying to install SQL Server 2008 on 64-bit W indow s 7. W hen I run
setup.exe, I get the follow ing error message:
Microsoft .NET Framew ork 3.5 installation has failed.
SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framew ork 3.5 to be installed
Things I’ve tried:
I’ve checked and double checked. I do have .NET Framew ork 3.5 installed, w ith
SP1
I’ve read about a missing W indow s Installer 4.5 installation producing the same
error. W in7 comes w ith W indow s Installer 5, w hich hopefully satisfies this
requirement, as I’ve tried to install 4.5 and it w on’t let me
Burning the ISO to DVD and installing from there.
Installing on an XP machine using the same ISO. This w orks, so the ISO must be
fine.
Considering SQL Server 2005, but it really needs to be 2008 for the project.
Update I could install SQL Server Express, and then SP1, but couldn’t upgrade
to Enterprise.
If you’ve come across this issue, or know how to fix it, I’d love to know .
Please note i purchased a new system for learning SQL Server but disappointed
w ith Microsoft for making me to struggle w ith its compatablity issues and w ith
out any solutions.
Please let me know if you can assist me on this.

If you are trying to install SQL-2008 and you also have visual studio
2008 installed w ith service pack one (SP1) and get the error
“A previous release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 is installed on this computer.
Upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to the SP1 before installing SQL Server
2008”
Then w elcome to the Microsoft beta testing program even if you purchased the
faulty softw are.
W ith XP the most common solution seem to be renaming the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTW ARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VS\Servicing\9.0
And replacing ‘9.0’ w ith ‘9.0Old’ how ever this does not solve the problem if you
are using w indow s 7 and the only solution I managed to find that w orked w as
to uninstall VS2008 and all the components and to then install SQL-2008 and
finally reinstall VS2008.
