their clients’ passion for providing
quality, compassionate care. They are proud
to count Johnson County Healthcare Center
as a valued client, and honored to support
them in comprehensive master planning
since 1997. Since that time, CTA’s Healthcare
planners and designers have partnered
with the hospital to support them in meeting
their goals in promoting health and healing
within the ever-expanding Buffalo, Wyoming,
community.
The design team has championed an
integrated planning effort – bringing together
healthcare strategy, facility planning, and
financial expertise. Their approach ensured
that Johnson County Healthcare Center’s
comprehensive master plan was based on
their unique business vision, resulting in a
four-phase implementation plan.
The newest addition to the campus is
CTA’s nursing home facility (Phase IV). This
is a state of the art, nurturing environment
that allows residents to thrive, families to look
forward to visits, and nurses and staff to work
efficiently and comfortably.
CTA views this nursing home as a keystone
project: one which epitomizes their main
passion and purpose to support hospitals in
creating healthier healing communities.
This 39,000-square-foot two-story nurs-
ing home is fully accessible and contains 44
individual patient rooms – each designed
with the residents’ comfort in mind. Curio
bookshelves, black-out shades, and two
large windows that either look out onto the
Big Horn Mountains or the soothing greens of
the neighboring golf course, allow residents
to feel ownership of their rooms – more at
home and connected to nature. Aesthetics
were inspired by comforting and time en-
during colors (i.e. earthy greens, peaceful
blues and browns), which complement the
breathtaking views.
Additionally, design professionals re-
imagined the nursing home. While long
corridors are common within such facilities,
the design team incorporated pod seating
areas to break up the hallways and encour-
age a sense of community. The facility also
features two fully-equipped kitchens/nour-
ishment centers for resident use, as well as
two congregational areas with chairs, sofas,
and electric fireplaces that create welcoming
environments for the residents and their visit-
ing loved ones.
Solid surface countertops were used
throughout the facility for optimum clean-

ing and durability. Due to the close proximity
of the golf course (FORE!), protective Kalwall
installations surround the cafeteria patios, al-
lowing residents to dine outdoors (during the
seasonable months), and enjoy the beautiful
views and fresh Wyoming air… safely.
The designers realize that healthcare
operations change over time. Future flexibility,
evolution, and technology were key guiding
principles identified in the planning process.
These were incorporated into each phase of
the nursing home design and construction.
CTA views Johnson County Healthcare Center
as more than a client: they are a partner. CTA
looks forward to evolving and pioneering heal-
ing environments with them into the future.
