Chapter 1 Preface
Thanks for using our product! Before use, please carefully read this manual for
safe and proper use of the product. Keep this manual with due care in case of future
reference. For any questions in relation to this manual, feel free to consult us. We

Chapter 2 Product Description


The digital lux meter is specially designed to measure illuminance and
luminance for purposes of luminous intensity determination, quality control, and
health protection in various environments such as factories, schools, offices, traffic
lines, and families.

2.1 Highlights
★ Powerful measurement functions: It can measure not only current values,
maximums, and minimums of illuminance and temperature, but also
illuminance difference, integrating illuminance, and average integrating
illuminance.
★ Support for automatic storage of illuminance data (up to 1900 groups) and
manual storage of illuminance data (up to 60 groups)
★ Wide measuring range (0 to 200,000 lux) and support of automatic range shift
★ Delivered with PC-based analysis software, allowing users to operate the
meter with ease
★ Quick response, high portability, and operable by a single hand

3.1 Function Overview

3.1.2 Storage, Query, and Deletion of Illuminance Data
① Illuminance data (1900 groups at most) can be stored automatically, queried,
and deleted.
② Illuminance data (60 groups at most) can be stored manually, queried, and
deleted.

3.2 Operations
3.2.1 Power On/Off

After installing the batteries, press and hold for two seconds to power it on,
and you can repeat the operation to power it off.
Note: Upon power-on, the current illuminance is shown by default. You can press

or to change the screen display. Pressing will change the screen


display following such a sequence: current illuminance and temperature, illuminance
difference, maximum illuminance and temperature, minimum maximum illuminance
and temperature, integrating illuminance, average integrating illuminance, and

illuminance data storage, or pressing will change the screen display in a reversed
sequence. Only in these 7 screens can the shutdown, backlight on/off, and data hold
on/off operations be performed.
3.2.2 Backlight and Data Hold

In any of the preceding 7 screens, you can press to cyclically set backlight
and data hold following the sequence: backlight off and data hold off (default settings),
backlight on and data hold off, backlight on and data hold on, and backlight off and
data hold on. Data hold off indicates that data on the LCD display is subject to
automatic update, while data hold on indicates that data is locked and not updated.
Note: Only in these 7 screens can the shutdown, backlight on/off, and data hold on/off
operations be performed.
3.2.3 Measuring Current Illuminance and Temperature
Upon power-on, the meter automatically measures and displays current

illuminance and temperature (see Figure 3-1). You can press to set backlight and
data hold (see section 3.2.2 for details).

3.2.4 Measuring Illuminance Difference

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-2) showing illuminance

difference. In this screen, you can press to set backlight and data hold (see
section 3.2.2 for details).

3.2.5 Measuring Maximum Illuminance and Temperature

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-3) showing maximum

illuminance and temperature. In this screen, you can press to set backlight and
data hold (see section 3.2.2 for details).

3.2.6 Measuring Minimum Illuminance and Temperature

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-4) showing minimum

illuminance and temperature. In this screen, you can press to set backlight and
data hold (see section 3.2.2 for details).

3.2.7 Measuring Integrating Illuminance

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-5) showing integrating


illuminance in order to read the integrating illuminance and accumulated time. In this

screen, you can press to set backlight and data hold (see section 3.2.2 for
details).

3.2.8 Measuring Average Integrating Illuminance

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-6) showing average


integrating illuminance in order to read the average integrating illuminance and

accumulated time. In this screen, you can press to set backlight and data hold
(see section 3.2.2 for details).

3.2.9 Selecting Units for Illuminance and Temperature

Press or to switch to the screen showing illuminance difference, and

then press and hold for two seconds to enter the screen (see Figure 3-7) for

selecting units for illuminance and temperature. In this screen, press select
LUX/oC, LUX/oF, FC/oC, or FC/oF (the selected unit combination is blinking), and

press and hold for two seconds to have the setting take effect and return to the
screen showing illuminance difference.
Note: The units for illuminance and temperature will not be lost during a shutdown.
You can also set the units through LuxLAB.

3.2.10 Setting Auto Shutdown

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-3) showing maximum

illuminance and temperature, and press and hold for two seconds to enter the

screen (see Figure 3-8) for setting auto shutdown. In this screen, press to select
CLO (auto shutdown disabled) or OPE (auto shutdown enabled), and then press and

hold for two seconds to have the setting take effect and return to the screen
showing maximum illuminance and temperature.
Note: The auto shutdown setting will not be lost during a shutdown, and it can also be
done through LuxLAB. The time of auto shutdown, however, can be set only using
LuxLAB.

3.2.11 Setting Auto Storage of Illuminance Data

Press or to switch to the screen showing minimum illuminance and

temperature (see Figure 3-4), and press and hold for two seconds to enter the
screen (see Figure 3-9) for setting auto storage of illuminance data. In this screen,

press to select CLO (auto storage disabled) or OPE (auto storage enabled), and

then press and hold for two seconds to have the setting take effect and return to
the screen showing minimum illuminance and temperature.
Note: The auto storage setting will not be lost during a shutdown, and it can also be
done through LuxLAB. The storage cycle, however, can be set only using LuxLAB.

3.2.12 Manually Storing Illuminance Data

Press or to switch to the screen showing current illuminance and

temperature (see Figure 3-1), and press and hold for two seconds to enter the
screen (see Figure 3-10) for manually storing illuminance data (60 groups at most). In

this screen, press to store the current illuminance data, and then press and hold

for two seconds to exit and return to the screen showing current illuminance and
temperature.

3.2.13 Querying Illuminance Data

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-11) for automatic storage

of illuminance data, and then press and hold for two seconds to enter the screen

for querying stored illuminance data. In this screen, press (the group number

goes larger according to the range) and (the group number goes smaller
according to the range) to query the illuminance data of different groups. In addition,
you can choose to query automatically stored data (queried by default) or manually

stored data by pressing and holding for two seconds. In the screen (see the left
half of Figure 3-12) showing the illuminance data stored automatically, you can press

to switch between ranges of x1, x10 (S), x50 (H), and x100 (SH); in the screen
(see right half of Figure 3-12) showing the illuminance data stored manually, you can

press to select x1 or x10 (S). Then, press and hold for two seconds to exit
and return to the screen showing illuminance the illuminance data stored
automatically.
Note: If no illuminance data is stored automatically or manually, corresponding query
will fail. The illuminance data that is stored automatically can also be queried using
LuxLAB.

The left portion indicates that auto storage is disabled; the middle portion
indicates auto storage is enabled; and the right portion indicates that the stored data
has reached the upper limit.

The left and right portions show the query of automatically stored data and
manually stored data respectively.
3.2.14 Deleting Illuminance Data

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-6) showing average

integrating illuminance, and then press and hold for two seconds to enter the

screen for deleting illuminance data. In this screen, press to select MEM (not

delete) or DEL (delete). In addition, you can press and hold for two seconds to
switch between the screen (left portion of Figure 3-13, by default) for deleting
automatically stored data and the screen (right portion of Figure 3-13) for deleting

manually stored data. Then, press and hold for two seconds to perform the MEM
or DEL operation and return to the screen showing average integrating illuminance.

Note: The illuminance data that is stored automatically can also be deleted using
LuxLAB.

The left and right portions show the deletion of automatically stored data and
manually stored data respectively.
3.2.15 Deleting Integrating Illuminance Data

Press or to switch to the screen (see Figure 3-5) showing integrating

illuminance, and then press and hold for two seconds to enter the screen (see

Figure 3-14) for deleting integrating illuminance data. In this screen, press to

select MEM (not delete) or DEL (delete). Then, press and hold for two seconds
to have the setting take effect and return to the screen showing integrating
illuminance.

Chapter 4 LuxLAB Guide

4.1 Minimum Computer Requirements


 Microsoft Windows system only
 1.6 GHz CPU, 256 MB memory space
 1 USB port

4.2 LuxLAB Installation


①Put the LuxLAB CD-ROM into the drive, run PL-2303 Driver Installer.exe, and
then run LuxLAB-Chinese.msi. If installation fails, download and install
Microsoft.NetFramework 3.5 before another try.
②Complete the installation as per the installation wizard.
Note: You are advised not to install LuxLAB on the partition where the operating
system locates, so that data loss will not occur after reinstallation of the operating
system.

4.3 Use of LuxLAB


4.3.1 Procedures for Use of LuxLAB
① Connect the meter to a USB port of the computer.

② Run on the desktop, and click in the toolbar. If a connection is


established between the meter and the software, "Connected" is displayed in the lower
left of the status bar. Then, you can perform operations, such as download, setting,
deletion, and measurement, on the meter.

③ After an operation, click and to exit LuxLAB, and disconnect the


meter from the USB port.
4.3.2 Connecting

Start LuxLAB and click in the toolbar. A window for communication


setting (see Figure 4-1) appears. In this window, select a port number and click OK.
The following operations assume that a connection has been successfully
established.

4.3.3 Download

Click to download automatically stored illuminance data (1900 groups at


most) from the meter. Figure 4-2 shows the data download process.

4.3.4 Setting

Click Set in the menu bar to set relevant parameters, and then click to
send the settings to the meter. Figure 4-3 shows the dialog box for parameter setting.

Parameters and their values are as follows:
▲ Auto shutdown switch: On/Off
▲ Auto shutdown timer: 1 to 240 minutes
▲ Auto storage switch: On/Off
▲ Auto storage cycle: 1s to 3600s
▲ Units for illuminance and temperature: LUX/C, LUX/F, FC/C, and FC/F
4.3.5 Deleting

Click in the toolbar to delete the illuminance data (1900 groups at most)
that is stored automatically.
4.3.6 Measurement

Click to measure current illuminance and temperature.

Chapter 5 Precautions

5.1 Precautions
▲ Alcohol and dilution are corrosive to the meter case, especially its LCD
display. To clean the case, use a cloth with some water to wipe it gently.
▲ Remove the batteries when you may not use it in a long time to prevent it
from damage due to leak of electrolyte.
▲ Any fault should be handled by a qualified person. Do not repair or modify it
on your own. Replacing batteries and disassembling the meter should be done in strict
accordance with the user manual.

5.2 Frequently Reported Problem


The LCD display is dim or has large latency.
Cause: insufficient battery power or extra low or high ambient temperature
Solution: Replace batteries, or stop using the meter in such environment.
