1. Introduction
The setup of a field device in a typical plant uses a software tool compatible with the maintenance and commissioning
requirements of the particular manufacturer. But a typical plant can include components from many different
manufacturers, and each setup tool can have quite a different look and feel.

The FDT Group was founded in 2003 to deal with this growing complexity by providing a common integration
technology used by all manufacturers. Founded by ABB, Endress+Hauser, Invensys, Metso Automation and Siemens;
the group created an FDT, or Field Device Technology. This technology defines how the field device driver works
together with a commissioning tool. In the case of Endress+Hauser, FDT defines how the individual field device drivers
work together with FieldCare. For more information, go to www.fdtgroup.org Since 2010 the FDT Group has put
into place a certifying process for this interface to ensure that the commissioning tool – in our case FieldCare – does
indeed create that common environment. FieldCare is the first frame to have been certified by the FDT Group (in
2010). The FDT standard has been adopted internationally as IEC 62453 and approved in the United States as
ANSI/ISA-62453.

A common integration interface is created with the FDT frame application. This frame application manages the DTMs.
DTM simply stands for Device Type Manager. There are CommDTMs that establish the communication interface
between the particular bus protocol and FieldCare and DeviceDTMs nested in the CommDTM that serve as device
drivers for the individual field devices. A DTM contains the device-specific data and functionalities plus all of the
graphic and dialogue elements necessary to communicate with the device and set its parameters. A DTM can be
compared with the driver for a printer; FDT with the Windows frame interface. We are provided with a common

Internal Training

frame interface – in our case FDT - and can select the printer that we consider the best. But we always know how to
print a document. FieldCare – the frame - always looks the same, but the communication and device drivers can be
different.

CommDTMs provide connection to the particular communication protocol, whether it be Industrial Ethernet, HART,
PROFIBUS, or FOUNDATION fieldbus (others also possible). DeviceDTMs provide connection to the field device type.
This creates a nested communication from the controller through each communication layer and down to the
individual field device.

We will see later on that the better the available DTM in the FieldCare library matches the field device type, the more
parameters that can be monitored and set by FieldCare. FieldCare rates this matching quality on a scale of 1 to 5,
where 1 is the absolutely correct DTM. Depending on the protocol used, there are various stages along the way to
“placeholder”, the worst match.

HART
FieldCare uses DTMs and always uses the DTMs for Endress+Hauser field devices. If there is no matching DTM for a
third-party device and a DD (Device Description) – registered by the HART Communication Foundation - is available
for the device, FieldCare provides an iDTM (interpreter DTM) that interprets the parameterization and functionalities
provided in the DD. (The HART Communication Foundation introduced mandatory registration for all HART field
devices beginning with HART 6 – WirelessHART is HART 7.) If a registered DD is not available, FieldCare makes
available a Generic HART DTM.
There is a quarterly update of all Endress+Hauser DTM libraries, including the iDTM library.

PROFIBUS
The PROFIBUS PA Profile specification requires that a field device communicate cyclically not only with a
manufacturer-specific GSD but also with a profile GSD that is the same for an entire class of field devices. This
facilitates device exchange. For the acyclic communication, DTMs can be generated from these GSDs in the form of
Device DTM and Profile DTM. FieldCare calls up a Placeholder DTM if neither one of the above DTMs matches
adequately the field device as identified by the network. DTMs are also available for the other components in the
network, such as a Gateway, Remote I/O, DP/PA Coupler or DP/PA Link. These DTMs should all be found in the
FieldCare DTM catalogue, or can be downloaded to that catalogue.
An iDTM for PROFIBUS will be available soon.

FOUNDATION Fieldbus
For FOUNDATION fieldbus, Device DTMs can be made available from the field device type DDs. Whether they are
actually available depends on the manufacturer. Endress+Hauser provides DTMs for its FOUNDATION fieldbus field
devices, except for older Endress+Hauser field devices. For older devices, a Basic DTM provides access to the basic
device functions. For third-party devices, if a DD is available in conformance with the registered DDs of the HART
Communication Foundation, again an iDTM can interpret it for commissioning with FieldCare.

1. Obtain the DVD for FieldCare 2.08 and install it on your laptop. If you already have FieldCare installed, make sure
that it is the latest version of FieldCare 2.08 and that the Service components – and DTMs - have been installed and
updated too. How to install and set up FieldCare is the subject of the next chapter.

If you have an earlier version of FieldCare installed, the best thing to do is to de-install the earlier version completely
and install FieldCare 2.08 new. An update will take longer and could create installation issues on your service laptop,
depending on how old it is.

2. Installing and setting up FieldCare

2.1. Installation of FieldCare

To install FieldCare, just follow the prompting from the DVD. Please install FieldCare completely, especially if you are a
Service engineer. Don`t forget to install the iDTMs for HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus, which interpret the DDs so
they can be used in a DTM environment. If you are a Service engineer, you will need the Service DTMs.

Note! If you already have an older version of FieldCare installed on your laptop, de-install the older version
completely. Then install FieldCare new.

2.2. Steps to successfully install FieldCare

1. Insert the FieldCare DVD in the DVD drive. FieldCare Setup starts automatically. If, however, autostart is not
active, start the setup.exe program.

2. FieldCare Installation Manager checks the system requirements.

3. The license agreement appears. Click YES to continue.

4. Click “Device Setup”. That is all you will need for this fundamental course. Anything higher requires a license.

Internal Training

5. Should you need Plant Asset Management extensions which require a license, click “Enter license information” and
type in the Serial Number and License Key.

The license information your customer enters depends upon what he wants to do with FieldCare. If you just want to
set up Endress+Hauser devices or 3rd party devices that provide an FDT conform DTM, all you need is Device Setup,
which is free of charge. If you need Plant Asset Management, you buy a license for PAM. If you need one or more of
the available extensions, you buy a license for PAM plus one or more of the Plant Asset Management Extensions: e.g.
Condition Monitoring, iDTM HART, iDTM FOUNDATION Fieldbus, etc. You enter the license key for the license
package that you require. Here below is an overview of the license packages offered at this time.

5. All of the languages of the FieldCare frame application will be installed. You choose your personal setting.

6. FieldCare Installation Manager now checks to see if a FieldCare version is already installed on your computer and
allows you to select what you want to install.

N As a Service Technician you will need everything. Check ALL of the boxes.

2.3. Setting up FieldCare

N This entire chapter is background information for you as a Service Technician. You don`t need to do
anything here.

3rd party DTMs have to be downloaded directly from the particular manufacturer, as there is no licensing policy
common to all manufacturers. Endress+Hauser does not charge for DTMs, but some other manufacturers do.

After installing the DTMs, don`t forget to update the DTM Catalog in FieldCare. You will normally be prompted by
FieldCare to do so, but if not, read further to find out how to do it. This will be explained in the next pages.

Useful features of FieldCare 2.08 are shown in the screenshots below. In the menu tab “Help”, under “About” and
then “More Info”, you can see which components of the FieldCare package were actually installed.

3. Getting started
As we said before, FieldCare allows you to reach your field devices through nested communication.
Now we need to use this information to set up our connection to the actual field devices through the communication
DTM for the particular fieldbus protocol we are using. In the network view, right-click on Host PC. Select the correct
CommDTM, set up your interface parameters by right-clicking on the CommDTM and going to Configuration. Then
you can go online and scan the network for the field devices actually connected to the network. Once you have seen
that your network is properly connected, use the tab “Create Network” in the toolbar at the top of your screen.

We will now go through the particular details for each protocol, each in a separate chapter.

4. Assessment
N Assessment: As a Service Technician, your assessment begins here. It is your task now to find two devices
– either HART, PROFIBUS or FOUNDATION fieldbus – and show us at PCPS that you can set the following in each
of those two devices:
 Tag: Your Name belongs here
 Address: 7 if HART, 27 if PROFIBUS or FF
 2 other parameters: Set the Display language to German
Set the Display to three places after the decimal
Then upload these changes into FieldCare, store the parameters and export them to a file that you send to us.
(You will find the e-mail address on page 2 of this handbook. You will need a Plant Asset Management (PAM) license
to export the file. This is recommended. But you can send us the file stored in FieldCare, if you do not have a license.)
How you do all this will be explained in the chapter you select: HART, PROFIBUS or FOUNDATION fieldbus.

N Assessment:
Finally, as described on page 9 of this handbook;
o click on “Help” => “About” and send us a screenshot of your FieldCare version (similar to the one
shown on page 9).
o Then click on “More Info” => “Print” (page 10) and send us the pdf that is produced.
Good luck!

3. Right-click on the CommDTM, “HART Communication” and “Configuration.”

4. Select the correct CommPort, reduce the number of communication retries to 1. Set the start and end addresses to
an appropriate range. If you are connected point to point, the device and the Commubox FXA 195 are in the same
communication loop, and the field device must have the address 0. If the field device is connected via multidrop,
it will have an address in the range from 1 to 15. With WirelessHART the address range has been extended to 63
and the Endress+Hauser adapter has the default address 15.

5. Click on “Apply” and “OK.”

5.6. Reading from and Writing to the Device

With an upload, the parameters can be read from the device to FieldCare. With a download, any changed parameters
can be written from FieldCare into the device.
Careful! Always upload all of the parameters from the device before downloading to the device. Otherwise you run
the risk of overwriting parameters in the device with default parameters from the offline configuration. Individual
values can be changed in the device by simply keying “enter.”

5.7. Storing the project

As mentioned above, first upload the parameters from the device into FieldCare. Then save your project as below.
Make sure you give it a project name that is easily associated with your project.

6. Service Interface FXA 193

N
Note! You as a service technician must have a PAM license for flow devices! Only with a PAM license is the
export function activated. You need the export function to print a pdf report for any flow device.

The FXA 193 is a Commubox designed to enable a service technician to connect directly through the service access
point with an Endress+Hauser Proline II field device from Flowtec. Parameters can then be set via FieldCare. The
communication is therefore independent of the protocol. You will learn more about the use of the various Service Tools
at the PC Flowtec Service courses.
For now, you MUST make sure that your laptop is prepared.

Note! The FXA 193 has only a serial interface. If your laptop no longer has a serial interface, you will need an RS 232
to USB adapter. The adapter needs to be installed and tested BEFORE you attend the course. Please contact
application@flowtec.endress.com for help in selecting and installing the proper adapter.

N
Connect your FXA 193 (plus USB adapter) to a flow device, add the ISS Comm DTM and scan for your flow device.
Go online. Once online you will find a print icon. Print out the parameters set in your flow device (with timestamp)
and send the printout to edward.kluttz@solutions.endress.com
You must receive an OK from PCPS BEFORE you attend any service training course at Flowtec!

device through the service access point of the particular device and set the parameters via FieldCare. The
communication is therefore independent of the protocol. You will learn more about the use of the various Service Tools
at the PC Service courses. For now, you will need to make sure that your laptop is prepared, as below.

N
You will need to install the driver on your laptop. Go to http://www.endress.com/corporate. In the search function
space, type in “FXA 291”. Go to the “Documents / Software” tab and download the USB driver for this Commubox.
Install it on your laptop. Make sure that you have installed all of the Service DTMs in FieldCare.

A ToF Adapter is needed to connect the FXA 291 with the Endress+Hauser pressure transmitters and the Gammapilot
M, as shown below. The connection is then to the service interface of the device for Group 1 and to the display
connection of the device for Group 2.

8. Service Interface TXU10

The TXU10 is a Commubox designed to enable a service technician to connect directly with an Endress+Hauser field
device through the service access point of the particular device and set the parameters via FieldCare. The
communication is therefore independent of the protocol. You will learn more about the use of the various Service Tools
at the PC Service courses.

PC-Wetzer uses the TXU10 for the following products:

RIA45, RIA46, RIA14, RIA16, RMA42
DTT31, DTT35
TTR31, TTR35

For PROFIBUS, the RIA14 and RIA16 must be set to a transmission rate of 2400 kbits/s in FieldCare.
For PROFIBUS, the TTR31 and TTR35 as well as the DTT31 and DTT35 must be set to a transmission rate of 9600
kbits/s in FieldCare.

Three devices from PC-Maulburg, PTC31, PTP31, PTP35 (Ceraphant), also use the TXU10 to set their parameters.

9.3. Starting the Interface Driver

The interface driver is started through the PROFIBUS Control Panel application. The application can be reached
through the Windows Control Panel directly or through FieldCare`s [Additional Functions].

FieldCare

PROFIBUS Control Panel

 Select the hardware path being

used. (USB, Ethernet Gateway,
PCMCIA Card….)

 A USB modem is used here.

Select the gateway used and
click on [Add]. Follow the
instructions of the Wizard.

 Then click on [Apply].

 Once the configuration is

successful, a green checkmark
appears.

FieldCare

Connecting with PROFIBUS

 Warning! Before you physically

connect up with a PROFIBUS
network, make sure that the
bus parameters in FieldCare are
set to match exactly the bus
parameters as set in the DCS. If
your FieldCare bus parameters
do not match those in the DCS,
adding FieldCare to the bus
could very well shoot down
your PROFIBUS segment.

 Connect your laptop with the

PROFIBUS DP side of the
network by way of a PROFIBUS
interface.

9.4. Selecting the Communication Interface

To connect up online with a field device and set parameters in that device online, the two layers of nested
communication have to be set up.

1. Right-click on “Host PC” and “Add Device.”

2. Add the CommDTM for PROFIBUS. Make sure that you choose the CommDTM from Softing.

SU00001S/04/en/06.12 Training Handbook FieldCare 1.6 Page 38 of 51 E.Kluttz/ Group Services - Training
Internal Training

3. Make sure that the configuration of FieldCare for the PROFIBUS CommDTM (PROFIdtm DPV1) is the same as in
the controller.

Find the board that you have set up. Select a free address for FieldCare.
It is imperative that the same Bus parameters calculated by the controller are now copied into the configuration of
FieldCare here.

SU00001S/04/en/06.12 Training Handbook FieldCare 1.6 Page 39 of 51 E.Kluttz/ Group Services - Training
Internal Training

Here below is a screenshot taken from Siemens S7 HW Config. If this were your network, you would copy all of the
Bus Parameters shown here, in Tbits, into FieldCare.

Important if you are using FieldCare on a running system! On a running system there is already a cyclic master
(controller) in control of the bus. The bus parameters calculated and used by it are the relevant parameters and NOT
any default values provided by the configuration in FieldCare. Select the correct board, a free address, the Baud Rate
AND the bus parameters calculated by the controller.

You as a service technician should, in addition, check with your customer about the TTR setting. In the screenshot
above, the calculated TTR is set to 34 513 Tbits; the actual – or “typical” TTR – is in this screenshot 2 282 Tbits. The
cyclic master (controller) only considers the cyclic time needed when calculating the TTR. In the case above, there is
still quite of bit of time left over after the cycle. Often there is not enough time left over for FieldCare. The cyclic
calculation does not allow for the acyclic time that FieldCare needs to access the bus. Endress+Hauser therefore
recommends that the calculated TTR time be increased by 20 000 Tbits. In this example that would mean changing
the calculated TTR to 54 513 Tbits. In ABB systems, there is often a ΔTTR and a TTR . You should recommend to your
customer to increase the TTR setting by 20 000 Tbits. In ABB systems, that means changing the ΔTTR to 20 000
Tbits (not increasing).
Please keep in mind that the customer changes any settings in the controller, not the Endress+Hauser
service technician!

Close the settings with “Apply” and “OK”.

Once the configuration is clear and has been applied to FieldCare, you can then connect.

9.5. Scanning with PROFIBUS

It is often very helpful to scan the network first in the commissioning phase before going on to check or set parameters
in individual field devices. This quick live list tells you whether you can communicate with all of the devices that
should be there. A right click on any device in the list, and you can change the address of the device, if its DIP switch
is set to software.

SU00001S/04/en/06.12 Training Handbook FieldCare 1.6 Page 41 of 51 E.Kluttz/ Group Services - Training
Internal Training

1. Select the range of addresses to be scanned and click on “Start Scan.”

2. Each field device that can be reached responds at its address with its Ident. Number. FieldCare translates the
number into the device name, if the device is set to use its manufacturer-specific GSD. (If the device is set to Profile, it
uses a common GSD – with …97… - and therefore cannot be identified as an Endress+Hauser device.)

3. If the field device DIP switch is set to software, a right-click on the device in this window allows you to change the
address. (As long as the device is not in cyclic communication. On a running system the device should be in cyclic
communication, so this will not work.)

9.6. Connecting to a field device to set parameters

Using the “Create Network” toggle scans the bus again and pulls up the Device DTMs as well.

Connect to the device in question, then double-click on it. You will go online with that particular field device.

9.7. Storing a project

With an upload, the parameters can be read from the device. With a download, any changed parameters can be written
into the device.
Careful! Always upload all of the parameters from the device before downloading to the device. Otherwise you run
the risk of overwriting parameters in the device with default parameters from the offline configuration. Individual
values can be changed in the device by simply keying “enter.”

Click on “File”, right-click on “Save as” and store under the appropriate project name.

10. FOUNDATION Fieldbus

10.1. Setting up the FOUNDATION fieldbus interface

Before starting FieldCare, the FF H1 interface must be set up with the National Instruments tool. Connect the NI
PCMCIA card or, for the latest NI tool, the USB adapter, to your laptop. Start the Interface Configuration Utility
application. Click on the port and “Edit.” The “H1 Port Properties” pops up. FieldCare is an acyclic tool, or in the words
of Emerson, an Asset Management System. The host system must therefore give it an address in the visitor range. Set
the port properties, Device Address, to “Visitor.”
