I 400 TC Transmitter

General Description 1
$ I 400 System
The I 400 system is composed of a set of products that can be interconnected through a CAN field bus
according to the definition in ISO 11989 and the CAN Open protocol.

The I 400 system comprises mainly:

• a graphic terminal,
• a transmitter,
• a coupler.

The use of the standard CAN field bus enables optimum integration in any automatic system that uses this type
of communication.

Installing additional programmes enables the graphic terminal to be adapted to an existing system so that all
the scales connected to the system can be checked.

The subsystem represented by the weighing assembly thus formed can be connected to any other type of field
bus through the I 400 coupler.

$ Transmitter

% Introduction

The I400 TC Transmitter is designed for installation in a cabinet on a DIN rail.

The transmitter performs:

• all the weighing functions on the associated scale (1 to 8* load cells): calibration, zeroing, stability,
measurement, continuous flow rate calculation with response time configuration, multi-slope calibration,
multi-range weight calculation, etc.
• analogue/digital conversion and transmission of weight information via the field bus.

The transmitter is fitted locally as an option with 2 logical inputs, 2 logical outputs and 1 x 4-20 mA analogue
output driven from the field bus.

The transmitter is made up of the following elements:

• a main electronic board ensuring the CPU function and analogue/digital conversion,
• a connector for the CAN bus and power supply,
• Screw connection terminal blocks.

* Up to 6 load cells or 8 high impedance load cells through an external junction box.

Installation 2
$ Physical characteristics
• Dimensions:
- Width: 22.5 mm.
- Height: 70.4 mm.
- Depth: 85 mm.
• Mounting: on 35 mm OMEGA rail (DIN EN500022).
• Weight: about 0.1 kg
• Protection: IP 41.

Example of mounting :

The box plugs in to the CAN bus connector with a slight twist. This prevents the bus from being
physically disconnected during replacement or maintenance.

$ Wiring

% Recommendations

Cables by metre

PRECIA-MOLEN recommends the use of 8-strand (∅ 0,34 mm²) sheathed cable, reference 4005271 (sold by
the linear meter) for applications using spring or screw terminal connections.

% Connection

All cables are connected to the transmitter with screw terminal type terminal blocks. The conductors are
connected with a screwdriver.

The shielding of the load cell cable must be connected to earth at connector terminals 1 or 5.

$ Connection of Inputs/Outputs (optional)

% Description

The I400 TC transmitter permits connection of up to:

• 2 voltage-free logical inputs of which one is for rapid counting (1 kHz); which can be used for a BS
transmitter (Bulk weighing, continuous totaliser) such as a speed sensor input.
• 2 isolated logical outputs.
• 1 x 4-20 mA analogue output (weight information or any other information transmitted through the field
bus).

1. Output connection terminal block.

2. Input connection terminal block.

04-32-15-1 MI 13
% Logical inputs

q Note: Although the I400 TC transmitter has only 2 logical inputs, the second logical input is seen as
input 6 from a software point of view. This input therefore has the same characteristics as the physical
input 6 on the I400 TB/TB-S transmitter.
