CTWE Overview

1. CTWE OVERVIEW
There are a wide variety of teacher training courses available from CELTA and TESOL
certificates to foundation programs such as the TKT. These courses focus on teaching
in an educational context rather than a workplace environment and therefore do not
adequately prepare teachers for the demands of their jobs as workplace English
communication trainers. Workplace English teaching requires specific theoretical
knowledge, practical skills and awareness to effectively apply communication
learning principles to the specific business needs of the workplace.

The Certificate in Teaching Workplace English was originally designed by Dr. Jane
Lockwood, a leading expert in workplace communication training and assessment. It
is a comprehensive theoretical and practical program purpose-built
purpose to provide
trainers with the necessary foundations in the principles of language and language
learning, assessment and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and its practical impact
on business performance to equip them to deliver quality communication courses
for the workplace.

2. CTWE COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES

2.1. Theoretical Knowledge

The CTWE aims to achieve the following theory learning objectives:

• Increased understanding of the principles of language and adult language learning

• Increased understanding of the relationship between language and culture
• Improve lesson planning and material selection and adaptation skills
• Improve formative and summative assessment awareness and application

2.2. Practical Application & Certification

The CTWE pushes beyond theory to ensure frameworks are applied in real workplace
scenarios to ensure washback into job performance. Our aims are to achieve:

• Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge to a classroom environment

• Improved delivery of pronunciation, language and soft skills training
• Improved error-correction

• Improved classroom management and use of adult learning principles

In order to ensure skills are effectively transferred back on to the job, a practical ev

forms part of the certification and is conducted with targeted individual feedback by
experienced teacher-trainers.

Future Perfect is an English language services provider founded by Dr. Jane
Lockwood, who remains Director of Education. We specialize in English for Specific
Purposes (specifically call center and business English) and have pioneered
collaboration between academia and industry through application of original
research to impact adult learning for vocational English.
