"Within hours we were being pressured from all sides to make a statement reyarding a video clip ‘which purportedly showed stents from Covington Catholic High School being disrespectful to Native American Elder [Nathan Pillip. Based on what the videoclip showed we condemned the actions of students who engage inthe alleged disrespect and promised t investigate the mate. ‘Since tha time other videoclips some of much longer duration —have surfaced. Once thee went vial some of the very same people who had put tremendous pressure onus o condemn the ations ofthe stidens now wanted retraction from ‘anyone who had previously isued a statement critical of them. Al ofthis was based again on a video. ‘Subsequently, there have been death threats to some of the students and their families. The vitriol and hateful comments ‘on some online stores, some of them appearing on website that purpart to be Catholic and prose, have been beyond belief and anything but posi. We even had a bomb scare atthe Cura offices and had to close the Curia and Covington [atin School (cross from the Cua) in ight of safety issues. People who are not at all faliar with Covington Catholic High School, is student, faculty, staff, administration andor the Diocese of Covington have felt fee to criticize inthe harshest terms Having issue a second statement that said that we have engaged a third-party investigative team t0 do thorough and in- 4opth investigation into the events that transpired on Friday, 18 Januar, it was our hope tha this would ameliorate some of tho hate Being spowed on the intemet and other news media, Unfortunately, this did not happen and people ae sil lined upon either side, ‘We are sory that this situation has caused such disruption in the lives of 30 many. We apologize to anyone who has been offended in any way by either of our statements which were made with god will based on the information we had. We should not have allowed ourselves to be bullied and pressured into making a statement prematurely, and we take fall responsibility frit. T especially apologize to Nicholas Sandmann and his family as well as to all CovCath families who have fle abandoned during this ordeal. Nicholas unfortunately has bocome the face of thes allegations based on video clips. This sno fie. It isnt just. ‘We now awat the results of the investigation and it is my hope and expectation thatthe results will exonerate our stats so that they ean move forward with thei lives. In any event, we will mak te final rept public once it as been receive. Inthe meantime, we call on al hose who continue to spew venom and hate to desist and instead pray fora peaceful resolution to this tragic spectacle Mr. Robert Rowe, the Principal of Covington Catholic High Schoo, has also been the target of this venom, He is fine leader and role model for every student at CovCath and I support him unequivcally. ‘Those calling for his resignation simply do not know him. ‘This has been a tying time for all oF us. I pray that with the grace of God and the goodwill of al involved peace wil noe again reign inthe hearts and minds of our faithful. As for CovCath, we have a sir that will not die!
