3 Classifying inventory

It is helpful to take the time to appropriately and

accurately classify inventory items using, for example,
the ABC classification system. The ABC classification
system proposes that not every item is equal in
importance within the overall inventory. A small packet
of screwswill not have the same value as a fan to a home
improvement store.In any retail organisation there are a
large number of inventory items to be maintained. It is
not practical to have a very stringent inventory control
system for each and every item. The need for
classification is real and tangible. To this end the ABC
inventory classification system will help you achieve a
rational classification of all your inventory items.

The ABC system classifies items into three categories:

class A, class B, and class C.

Class A items have high consumption values

Class B items have medium consumption values
Class C items have lowconsumption values
The ABC analysisthen allocates one of the three classes
to each inventory item based on this equation:

Consumption Value = (Unit price of an item) X (No. of

units consumed per annum)

This calculation should be completed for every inventory

item to accurately classify your inventory. The resulting
values will give you the information you need to
determine what your inventory breakdown should be.
This of course is only a guide. The buyers will make the
final decision as to what is ordered and kept in inventory
regardless of what the numbers say.

Understanding this classification system will help you

implement a strong inventory management policy which
will be covered later in this module.
4.3.3 Razvrstavanje inventara

Korisno je odvojiti vrijeme za prikladno i točno

klasificiranje stavki inventara koristeći, na primjer, ABC
sustav klasifikacije. ABC klasifikacijski sustav predlaže
da svaka stavka nije jednaka po važnosti unutar ukupnog
inventara. Mali paket vijaka neće imati istu vrijednost kao
obožavatelj trgovine za kućna poboljšanja. U svakoj

Sustav ABC razvrstava stavke u tri kategorije: klasa A,

klasa B i klasa C.

Stavke klase A imaju visoke vrijednosti potrošnje

Stavke klase B imaju srednje vrijednosti potrošnje
Stavke klase C imaju niske vrijednosti potrošnje

Analiza ABC dodjeljuje jednu od tri klase svakoj stavci

inventara na temelju ove jednadžbe:
Vrijednost potrošnje = (Jedinična cijena stavke) X (Broj
potrošenih jedinica godišnje)

Ovaj izračun treba izvršiti za svaku stavku inventara da

biste točno klasificirali svoj oglasni prostor. Rezultirajuće
vrijednosti pružit će vam informacije koje su vam
potrebne da biste odredili koji bi trebao biti vaš raspored
