METHOD STATEMENT FOR GRANITE STONE WORK

This method statement deals with Granite stone flooring, skirting and polished Granite stone staircase
treads.

NO. ACTIVITY RESPONSIBILITY

A. PRIOR TO WORK:
1. Ensure that adequate numbers of Granite slabs from approved agency
available at working location. Otherwise shift the same. Site Engg.

2. Refer the drawings for floor layout, size,shape, thickness and colour of
Granite
slabs as per drawing/ BOQ requirement etc. Size As per Dwgs (variable) Site Engg.

3. Check for clearance from electrical and plumbing services Site Engg.

4. Slab surface or surface to receive Granite flooring to be cleaned by chipping if


required and wetting of surface to be done after cleaning. Site Engg.

5 Prepare arrangements for mortar making like mortar trays, farmas all
equipments and tools required for the stone flooring activity Site Supervisor

6 Check for adequacy of skilled / unskilled workers for desired output Site Engg.

7. Batching of Sand shall be done by using farmas. Site Supervisor

8 Wet the Granite stone slabs thoroughly before laying Site Supervisor

9. For flooring Granite Check that all Granite slabs are machine cut as per
required size. Site Supervisor

10 Check that all edges of Granite slabs shall be sharp perfectly in right
angle,shall be pencil rounded and polished as per drawing/BOQ in exposed
corner and faces Site Engg.

11 Check for level of flooring ( FFL ) with respect to RL and reference level of
passage,lobby and other rooms Site Engg.

B. DURING WORK :
BEDDING BELOW GRANITE STONE SLABS
1. Bedding mortar proportion to be 1:4 cement : sand Site Engg.

2. Average thickness of mortar bed below Granite shall be resticted to 35 mm Site Engg.

3. Slopes if provided as per drawing shall be adjusted in mortar bed thickness Site Engg.

4. Mixing of mortar shall be done thoroughly without making lumps of cement,
sufficient quantity of water shall be added in mortar to make it consistent as
required for tamping the stone slabs. Site Supervisor

5. Only sufficient amount of mortar bed shall be prepaired on sub floor which
could be covered by Granite stone slabs with in 45 min Site Supervisor

LAYING OF GRANITE STONE FLOORING

1. Granite stone slabs shall be layed as per the leveling pads marked on the
floor. Site Engg.

2. Neat cement grout of grey OPC cement shall be spread on the mortar bed ,
immediately stone slab is placed on the cement grout. Site Engg.

3. Granite stone slab shall then be tapped with mallet till it is fixed in position
firmly , if Granite slab make hollow sound such slab to be removed and refixed
properly Site Engg.

4. Joints between the Granite slabs shall be as thin as possible and could be
limited to 1.5 mm. Check that edges of the adjoining slabs shall be in plane
and level. Site Engg.

5. Granite flooring shall then be covered with cello bubble guard sheets by
taping to protect tile flooring against dragging of objects and scratches etc.
Covered POP shall not be removed before polishing. Site Engg.

6 Skirting Granite shall be fixed on the flooring only after protecting the floor
Ensure that there is no shade variation in skirting and flooring stones Site Engg.

7 Skirting stones shall be fixed in 1:3 cement mortar flush with finished surface
of wall, with 6mm groove to be made at junction of floor tile and finished
surface of wall. Site Engg.

8 Skirting tiles shall be fixed with neat cement paste after cleaning the sub
surface just above the floor at required height as per drawing /BOQ all skirting
stones shall be machine cut at 45 deg at edges at staircase only. Site Engg.

9 Skirting joints and joints between flooring tiles and skirting shall be filled with
approved grout as done in floor tiles. White cement with cement paste and
pigment additives. Site Engg.

C AFTER WORK :
GROUTING OF JOINTS AND POLISHING
1. Line of joints in slabs so created shall be parallel and right angle to cross
joints. Site Engg.

2. After laying of stone slabs extra cement grout from the joints shall be removed
and joints are cleaned. Next day joints shall be opened and grouted with
approved coloured pigmented cements matching to colour of Granite stone. Site Engg.

3. Excessive grouting pigmented cements at joints shall be immediately removed


and cleaned. Site Supervisor
