Lansing School District Response to the Lansing State Journal

Monday, February 4, 2019

The Lansing School District is heartbroken over the tragic loss of Michael Martin, a
student at Everett High School. Each child is a treasure for a family, for friends, and
for our community. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be extended to Michael’s
family and many friends.

An Everett-based crisis team has been in place since January 24 and continues to be
active and available. Resources have been placed at Everett to support students and
staff in response to this tragedy.

The Lansing School District has state and board approved anti-bullying policies, and
resources in place to support our ongoing efforts to prohibit bullying in any of the
District’s programs, services and activities and provide a safe and nurturing
educational environment for all of its students. These policies can be found at:
www.lansingschools.net under Board of Education.

The Lansing School District is engaged in a comprehensive and on-going investigation

and is working closely with the Lansing Police Department. It is the policy and
practice of the district to not comment or share any details pertaining to the
investigation while it is on-going.
