Assignment #02
(CLO3)
Q: 01

A single-acting reciprocating pump discharges 0.019 m3 of water per second when running at 80
rpm. Stroke length is 60 cm and the diameter for the piston is 25 cm. If the total lift is 18 m,
determine:

(a) Theoretical discharge of the pump

(b) Percentage slip of the pump
(c) Co-efficient of discharge
(d) Power required

Q: 02

A three-throw reciprocating pump delivering 0.4 m3 /s of water against a head of 110 m.

Diameter and stroke of the cylinder are 28 cm and 54 cm respectively. Friction losses amount to
1.5 m in the suction pipe and 17 m in the delivery pipe. If the velocity of water in the delivery
pipe is 1.7 m/s, pump efficiency 95% and slip 4%, determine power required.

Q: 03

A centrifugal pump delivers 0.054 m3/sec of water to a height of 30 m using 120 m long and 0.19
m diameter pipeline. Find the power required if the inlet losses at foot valve is 0.39 m assume an
overall efficiency of 90% and friction factor f = 0.018
