“Disaster gave me two things: a moment to react and a decision to overcome.

” Michael
Dooley, NHS Consultant Gynecologists and a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists.

The statement reminds me of something and opens my mind to be a better person. We

must act accordance with the past events and being prepared is one of the most important thing to
do, to lessen or to abstain from something that cannot be foresee and the repentance of the
actions that we made.

Earthquakes are natural phenomena that can’t be detected or something that cannot be
foresee. Earthquake is a natural calamity can occur anytime and anywhere on the earth surface,
cause lots of disturbance of to the living beings and useful natural resources. Earthquake, any
sudden shaking of the ground caused by the passage of waves through earth’s rocks, according to
the definition of www.britannica.edu. There are several reasons why earthquakes are frightening
and most of us are panicking when it comes with these natural phenomena. Being scared or
frightened, that’s a natural way to act as a human. But like what I’ve said, if we choose to be ready
and with the help of our government, to lessen the damages. If we think about the earthquake, we
also think that nothing is more destructive than this natural calamity. Earthquake has its long
devastating history from the ancient time all over the world however its monotonous regularity
makes us more fearful.. Earthquake occurs when such moving plates clash with each other and
separate.

In the ancient time, people in China were used a device in order to guess the occurrence of
earthquake. The said device was similar to the jar having dragons on top and surrounded by frogs
with open mouths. They guess the occurrence of earthquake by the exchange of fitted ball in
dragon's mouth to the frog's mouth, like what Jaron said in the discussion of the apparatus for
detecting an earthquake. The direction of earthquake was decided by the position of frog receiving
a ball. This device was an effective tool in the ancient time to figure out the origin of an earthquake.

“Earthquakes are destructible and kills people.” One of the reporter in Asia’s Channel,
South Korea and that statement triggered my ears, not only my ears but also my mind. Earthquake
are destructible and yes, they destroy infrastructures and building that the engineers construct but
we all know that earthquakes are natural event. Why the said statement triggered my mind? 1st
because of the selfishness of the statement and it is a bias phrase, 2nd the earthquakes can’t kill
people, the building or infrastructure does. The destruction of the said structures can kill people.
Falling objects, cracking of the structures, are the reasons why peoples are suffering during and
after the phenomena. Everyone should take the following precautions like, People should stay calm
and stay inside or outside the door but away from windows, buildings and power lines. They should
stand against the wall near to the center of building, at doorway and crawl under some heavy
furniture like a desk or table. Never use flammable things like matches, candles, or any other flame
as they caught fire with broken gas lines. Never use elevators as they may have stuck. If someone
is in the running car, he/she must stop the car and stay inside until the earthquake stops.
In the different parts of the world, the earthquake serves an inspiration and a sign to
prepared more than usual. Like in Japan, Japan is a developed country with the third largest
economy in the world, behind the United States and China. The northeast border of Japan
encountered an overwhelming natural disaster in the form of an earthquake that also created a
massive tsunami and many strong aftershocks, which has affected Japan domestically and
internationally. The aftershocks continually delayed recovery and have increased difficulty for
search and rescue teams combing the disaster area for the deceased and wounded. The Haiti
Earthquake of 2010 was one of the most powerful earthquakes of recent history. It had a magnitude
of 7.0. This massive and destructive earthquake occurred on January 12, 2010 at approximately
4:53 p.m. The earthquake was predominately felt in Haiti. Selecting this two countries because
these are the earthquakes that opened something in my heart and mind that as a citizen of our
country, we should help one another and pray for what is the best for us.

In our country, The Pearl of the Orient Sea or also known as the Republic of the Philippines
on October 16, 2013, Tuesday, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake shook Bohol province in the central
Philippines, tearing up roads, collapsing hundreds of structures including more than a dozen
historic churches and claiming more than 140 lives. All but two of the 20 bridges on Bohol Island
were destroyed, hampering rescue efforts. Residents have been warned to stay out of large
buildings until their structural integrity can be checked. In the meantime, thousands are temporarily
homeless, this reference or statement is according with the GMA NEWS TV. The government
gave relief goods and some shelter for the residence. “The Filipino is Worth Dying For”, Benigno
Simeon "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. Being a Filipino who’s experiencing this kind of tragedy, losing some
lives, when the word homes don’t exist anymore and realizing that being alive in this world is hard
enough and there’s no other option but to give up. But we as the personification of a happy person,
like a child that has everything, already contented in his life. “Filipinos are always Smiling, that’s
the good characteristic of being a Person” Oprah Winfrey.

Everything has their exceptions, everything breaks their own rules. There are countries that
hasn’t experience the taste of this said casualty and some part our world remains mystery.
