 Soil condition – bearing capacity and its implications

 Existing trees, buildings, other features, condition and type of trees
 Existing landmarks and views (from site and towards site)
 Zoning and Building Bye laws – landuse, F.A.R., G.F.Coverage, Set back lines, Building
byelaws

Off-site considerations:
 Access, surrounding road network – major, secondary, service roads
 Traffic movement – volumes and destinations, traffic rotaries
 Nalas, streams and water-bodies
 Surrounding landscape, views and landmarks
 Architectural environs
 Local Building Materials, building technology – vernacular const. methods

3. Case Study Analysis 45
 Design
Validity and Objective of case study, Architect’s objectives and concept of Design, Development of
the plan and form, Function definition and Usage index of various spaces, Function distribution –
horizontally and vertically, Area distribution – bubble diagrams, Circulation – vehicular, pedestrian,
ramps (within buildings and outside buildings), other, lifts and escalators
 Services
Water Supply: Pattern and quantum including overhead and underground tanks – Capacity and size
Structural provisions
Sewerage: Type of disposal system, pattern, Invert Level
Electrical Supply: Availability of Electricity, Distribution system at both micro and macro level
(location of feeder bus-bars etc).
Air-conditioning:System, Plant capacity & location, Machinery and equipment, Space requirements,
Height and circulation, Provision of ramps, ramp gradient, Photographs if possible
Fire prevention: Fire Fighting Equipment, location and working, Firefighting water tanks, capacity, size
and location
Landscape: Scheme and effect, Trees, Hierarchy of open spaces.

 Construction technology
Structure: System and validity, Materials used, Market availability, Local construction techniques

 Other special features that relate to the topic: Water harvesting system, Acoustical services, Lighting
and illumination, Use of Alternate energy resources, Signage, Security systems etc.
