Core reasons of

LED Light

Being most progressive product

in lighting

sector.
BACKGROUND:

In 1907, British experimenter in Marconi labs Henry Joseph Round noticed for the first
time that when a potential of 10volts is applied to carborundum (silicon carbide) crystal, it
emits yellowish light. However, first to investigate it and to propose a working theory was
Oleg Vladimirovich Losev from Russia. In 1927, Oleg published a paper “Luminous
carborundum detector and detection effect and oscillations with crystals“.For decades no
progress was made for different reasons. Rubin Braunstein that worked at Radio
Corporation of America, reported in 1955 that some simple diodes emit infrared light when
connected to a current. In 1961, Gary Pittman and Bob Biard from Texas Instruments found
that that gallium-arsenide diode emits infrared light every time it is connected to current.
The same year they received patent for infrared LED. Nick Holonyak Jr., employed in
General Electric, developed in 1962 first light-emitting diode that emitted light in the
visible part of the frequency range. It was a red LED. In 1972, M. George Craford, who was a
graduate student of Holonyak, invented the first yellow LED and a brighter red LED.
Thomas P. Pearsall developed high brightness light-emitting diode in 1976, for use with
fiber optics in telecommunications. Shuji Nakamura of Nichia Corporation made first blue
LED in 1979 but it was too expensive for commercial use until 1994. Light emitting diodes
can now be made in one or in more colors.

Research Objectives:

The research objective is provided below

 To identify the reasons for which LED light being most progressive product in
lighting sector
INTRODUCTION

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a two-lead semiconductor light source. It is a p–n

junction diode that emits light when activated. When a suitable current is applied to the
leads, electrons are able to recombine with electron holes within the device, releasing
energy in the form of photons. This effect is called electroluminescence, and the color of the
light (corresponding to the energy of the photon) is determined by the energy band gap of
the semiconductor. LEDs are typically small (less than 1 mm2) and integrated optical
components may be used to shape the radiation pattern.
Appearing as practical electronic components in 1962, the earliest LEDs emitted low-
intensity infrared light. Infrared LEDs are still frequently used as transmitting elements in
remote-control circuits, such as those in remote controls for a wide variety of consumer
electronics. The first visible-light LEDs were of low intensity and limited to red. Modern
LEDs are available across the visible, ultraviolet, and infrared wavelengths, with very high
brightness.
Early LEDs were often used as indicator lamps for electronic devices, replacing small
incandescent bulbs. They were soon packaged into numeric readouts in the form of seven-
segment displays and were commonly seen in digital clocks. Recent developments have
produced LEDs suitable for environmental and task lighting. LEDs have led to new displays
and sensors, while their high switching rates are useful in advanced communications
technology.
LEDs have many advantages over incandescent light sources, including lower energy
consumption, longer lifetime, improved physical robustness, smaller size, and faster
switching. Light-emitting diodes are used in applications as diverse as aviation
lighting, automotive headlamps, advertising, general lighting, traffic signals, camera flashes,
lighted wallpaper and medical devices. They are also significantly more energy efficient
and, arguably, have fewer environmental concerns linked to their disposal.
Unlike a laser, the color of light emitted from an LED is neither coherent nor
monochromatic, but the spectrum is narrow with respect to human vision, and for most
purposes the light from a simple diode element can be regarded as functionally
monochromatic.

LITERATURE REVIEW

In general, we want to analyze the reasons of LED being progressive product in the Lighting
industries, loyalty of customer and general perception of LED lighting in Bangladesh. To
form the report we had to contacted with a LED light distributer and collect data of the
customers.
Methodology

In order to collect data we have contacted ECO Energy Solution, one of the leading LED
Light distributer and took feedback of some customer who are using LED light following
the Non probability sampling techniques. The list of customer are provided below.

1. Concord Group

2. HA-MEEM Group

3. Rangs Goup

4. BATA

5. LOTTO

6. Deffodil University

7. Eastern University

8. Dhaka Club Limited

DATA COLLECTION

The report is based on Primary data and followed by the above mentioned customers we
have formed a questioner in order to collect data. The questioner is provided below.
