1.0.1 The information and specifications contained in this manual are intended to assist in selecting appropriate
roofing systems. Soprema Inc. believes the design and construction of the buildings which receive these products
are best left to the owner, architect and/or contractor. We stress that to obtain a roofing system that will perform
properly, workmanship is equally as important as the use of quality materials properly designed into a good roofing
specification. The most perfectly manufactured product cannot perform its function if it is not properly installed. The
recommendations which are contained in this manual cannot substitute for the knowledge, skill, experience and
integrity expected of a qualified professional roofing contractor or the technical expertise of trained architects and
engineers. It is recommended that the user become familiar with all the relevant material included in this manual
before selecting or installing a particular roof specification.
1.0.2 SOPREMA Inc. is not responsible for and will not accept, under any circumstances, any responsibility for the
adequacy of a building design, including adequacy of any structure supporting the weight of any roofing system. Review
of the plans and specifications by a SOPREMA Inc. representative shall be for the sole purpose of making suggestions
or recommendations concerning details for the application of SOPREMA Inc. roofing systems and products.
1.0.3 We reserve, at our discretion and without prior notice, the right to change or modify any of the information,
recommendations or specifications in this publication. The enclosed recommendations and requirements are directed
to SOPREMA Inc. materials used in the roofing system and to the details of construction which directly affect the
application of the SOPREMA Inc. roofing membrane system and its performance.
1.0.4 SOPREMA Inc. does not assume responsibility for decisions as to when and where vapour retarder systems or
special attachment procedures are advisable. When such decisions are factors, the recommendations and procedures
outlined in this manual are to be used as guidelines only, and shall not be taken as an express or implied warranty to
fit a particular purpose, which SOPREMA Inc. expressly disclaims.
1.0.5 Under no circumstances will SOPREMA Inc. be responsible for any failure of the roofing system due to structural
defects, damage from other building trades or for failure due to errors in design of any building element.
1.0.6 Because all the factors creating abnormal wind conditions on a roof cannot be anticipated by SOPREMA Inc.,
we do not accept wind damage liability.
1.0.7 SOPREMA Inc. is only responsible for its own products, and this, within the conditions and limits of the law.
SOPREMA Inc. shall not incur any responsibility for possible damage or prejudice resulting from the application of
products:
- having been alterated in any way;
- contrarily to principle, standards, and/or specifications of SOPREMA Inc.
in force at the date of delivery.

SOPREMA, the standard in the waterproofing industry
SOPREMA is an international manufacturing business specialized in making waterproofing products
for the building and civil engineering sectors. Founded in 1908 in Strasbourg, France, SOPREMA now
operates in more than 80 countries.
SOPREMA established operations in Canada in 1978, opening its first production facility and head office
in Drummondville, Quebec in 1984. The Canadian division has shown remarkable growth, and now
includes six North American production facilities manufacturing a wide variety of building envelope
products for industrial, commercial, institutional and residential construction.
SOPREMA has been standing out from the competition with its 100 years roofing system
The design and specifications of today’s roofing systems must take into account the issues of energy
conservation, sustainability, optimal utilization of raw materials and waste reduction. One innovative
SOPREMA solution in this area consists of the re-covering of an existing waterproofing system. This
approach helps prolong the useful life of the roof and reduces the quantity of materials sent to
landfill sites.
Good design, selection of quality materials and proper installation are essential when recovering a
roofing system.
For more information on this subject, consult the Roofing Repair Guide found in this manual.

ENVIRONMENT
EN 16001, the standard for energy management systems, guarantees that SOPREMA is complying with
the most recent practices in the area of energy management. Furthermore, its plant in Drummondville, Qc
was the first site in Canada and the first in the SOPREMA group to have successfully completed the
accreditation process for the EN 16001 standard.
SOPREMA has worked for over 20 years to limit the impact of its products and its industrial activities on
the environment and human health through all stages of a building’s life cycle (construction, operation
and demolition).
SOPREMA’S R&D teams work closely with international, private and public research laboratories to
develop innovative solutions that meet new industry requirements.
SOPREMA created the Eco Struction logo to identify its environmentally friendly
products and services.
SOPREMA chose the Ginkgo biloba leaf to symbolize its environmental initiative.
This extremely ancient tree represents sustainability, health, resistance to
aggression, endurance in the face of environmental stress and aesthetics.

SOPREMA waterproofing membranes are manufactured with three types of reinforcement. A good
roofing system always combines the strengths of each reinforcement type to maximize its properties
and effectively resist roofing movement caused by the drastic temperature extremes of the North
American climate.
COMPOSITE
This three-ply woven polyethylene resists UV rays for up to 90 days, and its anti-skid
surface helps ensure worker safety during installation. As with the reinforcements
described above, this material is very flexible and reacts very well to movement.

HIGH PERFORMANCE SYSTEMS
SOPREMA High Performance Roofing/waterproofing systems were designed with one basic criteria
in mind: durability. All these systems are composed of at least one membrane manufactured with
robust composite reinforcement providing the best resistance to movements caused by temperature
variations.
TRAFFIC CAP sheet membranes of the High Performance roofing waterproofing systems are
manufactured with a composite reinforcement that makes them even stronger and more weather
resistant.
Composite reinforcement used in manufacturing membranes for our High Performance systems are
subject to standard ASTM D6162.
SOPREMA provides several membrane combinations in every section of the manual, to build the
waterproofing system tailored to your project. The High Performance logo helps you to discover
SOPREMA’s optimum solution.
You can also discover the benefits of the PLATINUM PRIVILEGE warranty, specific to High
Performance membranes.

WARRANTIES
This section concerns certification of SOPREMA Inc. roofing systems obtained from the Underwriters
Laboratories of Canada (ULC). This certification arises from the requirements of Section 3, Article 3.15.1,
of the National Building Code of Canada, which stipulates that roofing systems must be tested according
to the testing procedure in standard CAN/ULC S-107 M87 “Standard test methods for fire tests of roof
coverings.”
Standard ULC S-107 categorizes roofing systems according to their fire resistance performance into three
distinct categories: A, B and C. The National Building Code of Canada requires that roofing systems meet
one of these classifications to comply with the requirements cited in Section 3. SOPREMA systems are
listed at ULC according to classification and are available at www.ulc.ca.
Once you are on the website, here are a few easy steps that you can take to find SOPREMA roofing
systems:
5. Click on the TGFUC.R19921 link, which corresponds to the SOPREMA Inc. file.
This section deals with roofing systems tested in accordance with CSA A123.21-04 Standard Test Method
for Dynamic Wind Uplift Resistance of Mechanically Attached Membrane Roofing Systems.
SOPREMA roofing systems are tested in several combinations and under different pressures. Moreover,
contrary to the Factory Mutual (FM) publications, there is no minimum for the published pressures.
Systems tested in accordance with the CSA A123.21 standard that have satisfied its requirements are
listed under the CSA A123.21-04 tab on the Laboratoires Shermont website (www.labo-shermont.com).
APPROVALS
This section concerns certification of SOPREMA Inc. roofing systems by the Factory Mutual (FM)
Insurance Company. This certification is related to standard 4470 developed by FM that was designed
to evaluate the performance of roofing systems with respect to pressure exerted by wind on buildings.
The pressure exerted during the 4470 standard simulation tests is static.
SOPREMA roofing systems are certified in several possible combinations with various exerted pressures.
Minimum acceptable pressure for the FM standard is 60 psf (2.87 kPa). Our systems are listed for steel
and concrete decks.
Systems that have received FM certification are entered in the RoofNav database that lists all roofing
systems from various manufacturers. This database can be found at www.roofnav.com. For more
information, please ask to your technical representative.
CERTIFICATIONS
Management systems are ISO 9001 certified for quality and ISO 14001 for the environment.

EAVE PROTECTORS
UNDERLAYMENT PROTECTION
LASTOBOND roof underlayment membranes are often used on residential roofs and under metal clading
materials to ensure waterproofing of high-risk areas. SOPREMA has designed a complete line of self-
adhesive waterproofing membranes offering unique performance.
LASTOBOND 195 Yes The LASTOBOND 195 and 240 roof underlayment membranes are composed
of self-adhesive SBS modified bitumen, glass mat reinforcement and have
a sanded surface.
LASTOBOND 240 Yes The LASTOBOND 195 membrane has a width of 910 mm (36 in).
LASTOBOND SHIELD Yes The LASTOBOND SHIELD self-adhesive roof underlayment membrane provides
increased performance thanks to a flexible self-adhesive and self-sealing
bitumen composition. The surface of the membrane is covered with a
three-ply woven polyethylene.
LASTOBOND SHIELD HT Yes In addition to offering all the advantages of the LASTOBOND SHIELD membrane,
the LASTOBOND SHIELD HT waterproofing membrane is resistant to temperatures
as high as 105°C. This makes LASTOBOND SHIELD HT the perfect solution for
ensuring the waterproofing of the roof under metal panels, since its
bituminous mass is more resistant to the heat conducted by the metal.
