The protein encoded by this gene is involved in
osteo- and chondrogenic cellular differentiation Chr. X chromosome (human)[1]
(the cells which are responsible for the
development of bone and cartilage
respectively).[6]

ITM2A is also involved in activation of T-cells in Band Xq21.1 Start 79,360,384 bp[1]
the immune system[9] and in myocyte End 79,367,667 bp[1]
differentiation.[10]
