Purpose
The Visual Screening is used to inspect KBB iPhone for damage to determine if they are suitable for Loaner or ‘AsIs’ re-
sale programs.

Screening Process

1. For an iPhone to be deemed NTF (No Trouble Found) and suitable for the AsIs or Loaner programs it must be
inspected and pass this cosmetic standard externally and internally.

External Inspection
Component Check all models
When inspecting the device’s exterior, look for these key components to be present.

If any of the external components are missing or damaged, the device should be rejected.

• Headset jack • Rear Camera • Receiver • Display • Front Camera • Home Button

Un-Acceptable Cosmetic Damage & Associated CompTIA


Physical damage on display - (MEA)
• Any device with single or multiple cracked glass, extreme scratches or chipped glass should be rejected. Check all
glass surfaces front & rear.
• Display delimitation, display popped out or LCD fracture should be rejected.
• Display clicking - clear, distinguishable & repeatable clicking when the display is pressed against enclosure.
Reference Inspection Steps with pass/fail criteria.
• Extreme abrasion or scratches on glass surfaces should be rejected.
Physical damage on enclosure - (MDE)
• Any visibly bent enclosure should be rejected. If cracked housing is present reject unit.
• Extreme abrasions (excessive scratches across an entire side or one entire surface) should be rejected.
• Port, Jack or connector corrosion or non-removable material that could cause a failure is present reject unit.
• Port, Jack or connector bent pins or broken plastic is present reject unit.
• Dent, gauge or scratch with a sharp edge to touch reject unit.
• Damage to buttons.
• If a device exhibits signs of battery swelling reject unit.
Abrasions on Camera Lens - (MAC)
• Any abrasions or scratches on camera lens should be rejected.
Laser Engraving - (MLA)
• Any personalised engraving should be rejected.
iPhone 6 & 6+ Front camera Gasket Issue - (CM2)
• Misplaced gasket is present in iP6/6+ Facetime camera reject unit.
Triggered External Liquid Indicators - (B90)
• If external LCI are triggered reject unit. Missing LCI is not a Fail.
Damage induced by warehouse - (MWD)
• Any external or internal physical damage induced by screening centre while screening device.
Check IMEI/MEID - (MEI)
• Make sure the IMEI/MEID match what is displayed in PAL or iTunes or go to Settings > General > About.
• Check Serial Number (iPhone 5S and Lower). Make sure the internal serial number matches what is displayed
in PAL, iTunes or Settings >General > About.

External Inspection (MEA)
Display clicking Inspection Steps:
Both security screws must be securely tightened prior to test. (Torsion - 0.35Kgfc)
Note: Ambient noise can be an issue to detect failure mode and warehouse team should attempt to minimise ambient
noise as much as practical within the test environment.
1. Remove any bands or cord used to secure traveller to unit.
2. Perform tests while holding unit between thumb and index finger, all testing is to be done with the unit gripped in
the hand and not by putting unit on a table and pressing.
3. Display clicking will typically be discoverable if device makes a “creaking” or “clicking” sound when display is
pressed against the enclosure.
4. Check for distinguishable & repeatable clicking when the display is pressed against enclosure.
5. This fail can exhibit in two ways. Clear clicking sound or tactile movement where the movement between glass
and enclosure can be felt repeatedly.
6. To be considered repeatable the clicking or tactile movement must present at least twice in a single area.
7. If the fail mode appears only once during 5 attempts continue for additional 5 attempts in that area to attempt to
replicate issue.
8. If the fail mode presents only once during 10 attempts then it is not considered a fail.
9. Press centre of screen (Area1) with thumb 5 times. If no clicking is felt or heard then check each corner 5 times
(Areas 2,3,4,5)

Acceptable Cosmetic Condition


Enclosure Wear
Enclosure wear does not prevent device from being used. Scratches, scuffs, dents, and chips can be accepted.
Both security screws must be present and the correct colour.
Small dents, gouges, or scratches not causing a sharp edge.

Liquid Contact Indicators (LCIs) 6 & 6 Plus
Any liquid damage report using comptia MID (SCRAP)
With device open, check the two internal LCIs and check for other signs contamination or corrosion. If any of the LCI
indicators are tripped (Red or Pink) or if any corrosion is visible reject the unit. Missing LCI is not a fail.
