TESCO Automated Catwalks (TAC)

Our TAC System transfers casing between the pipe rack and the rig floor in the

safest and most controlled manner possible. It can be operated wirelessly with an

explosion-proof remote from the rig floor or manually from the catwalk’s valve back.

Catwalk Control System

Every TAC is equipped with an on-board Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). This allows

the operator to move critical functions of the catwalk simultaneously, positioning it

precisely where the trough needs to be on the rig floor.

n The TESCO Automated Catwalk’s open belly design and
ability to manipulate its arms horizontally provides for ease
of maintenance and allows the operator or technician to work
in a safer environment.

n TESCO Automated Catwalks are designed to achieve zero

contact with personnel. When picking up a casing string,
the TAC is equipped with casing runs that are pinned onto
its side. This creates a bridge between the pipe racks and
the catwalk and keeps workers at safe distance.

n Because of the TAC’s open belly design, valuable time is

saved during troubleshooting without the need to open
heavy doors that can create lifting and pinch hazards. Most
troubleshooting can be diagnosed by standing on the outside
of the catwalk’s frame looking in.

n The TAC has an extendable trough which gives operators

the ability to customize its position to the approximate inch
required at well center. This drastically reduces the swing
weight of the tubular being picked up from the trough, and
it reduces the amount of space necessary for the rig crew to
push back from the tubular when laying down.

n Each TAC is equipped with gull wings that swing outward

and can be hydraulically lowered to create a ramp so that
drill pipe can roll off into pipe tubs or a waiting loader.
After the initial set up, the rig crew has no need to come in
contact with the TAC again except to perform maintenance
or move to a new location.

TESCO Automated Catwalks are designed

to achieve zero contact with personnel.

The TAC 45 is the largest catwalk in TESCO’s offering and is designed to be the
most adaptable hydraulic catwalk system in the world. The TAC 45 utilizes four
TAC 45

scissor lift arms providing more strength, agility and reliability than the catwalk
industry standard. Utilizing these front and back scissor lift arms, The TAC 45 can
present tubulars to any rig floor at heights of up to 40 ft. The TAC 45 has a 100HP
motor and a lifting capacity of 10,000 pounds (five tons).

A two-piece modular system, the TAC 45M was built to fit the need for a more

portable catwalk that could still perform and handle tubulars like the TAC 45.
Since the HPU can be detached for transportation and reattached upon arrival
onsite, the TAC 45 is more easily transported from location to location. This
feature also allows it to meet the requirements of strict transportation regulations
around the world.

This model is designed specifically for smaller drilling rigs and snubbing rigs.
Unlike the TAC 45 and TAC 45M, the TAC 23 uses only two scissoring arms yet
TAC 23

maintains the ability to present casing to any rig floor at heights of 32ft. It can be
powered by a 60HP Tier 4 Kubota engine or a 60HP Electrical HPU and has
a lifting capacity of 6,000 pounds (3 tons).
